    o.k. i've counted 9 fins , its a 1979 motor, i've decided today i'm going to buy it either way. 80 or 74..
its near complete (less carb) ....ill be a bit happier if its 80ci. guess ill have to wait till l look inside it..
looks like it'll needs a bit ov luvin before its put to use.you know the usual rebuild.so ill know all about it by then,.
im thinking of building a bike using this motor, dont know yet,its kind of a newer ish type donk,,im still in 2 minds about it,
Dave , Johnny, Thanks for your replies, i'll let youz know what l find when it lobs here.....

    Burnzi,...A kehin's good, the shovel manifold has 2 holes , 1 top 1 bottom,
im not sure ,think evo's had a round rubber mounting biz??that mounts to the manifold? is that correct??
but if yours has the threads or threaded studs protruding ,top and bottom of carb, for mounting..that'd be great!!
if so let me know how much..& i'll pick up,send out or something ....Thanks.....

the bottom barrel flange is thicker on the 80 cuber's than the 74's & the barrel stud's are longer for them

l took the motor apart except for spliting the cases, left the wheels & rod assembly alone.as it all measures up feels & looks good, no rounded bolts or other damage , So far i've checked for worn or damage to oil pump, lifters/blocks ,pinion, cam, stater, some bushings,,im happy to run it as theres no excessive ware, put a kit to oil pump & all new gaskets that the bottom end uses, i'm waiting on a honing tool ive ordered from the states to do the cylinders , they are in good shape & require new rings & hone only, havnt taken the rocker boxes off the heads yet,but will be checking valves, seats, guides,& rocker gear in a couple of weeks, SO Far I've Found 2 Issues,.. std sized piston rings in a 0.10 up motor, & front exhaust lifter missing 1 needle roller in the wheel,so it was moving up and down by about 1/16in. So it was probably a bit noisy & smoky, hence the cheap price....its something to do on the odd nights ive got time & feel like it..go down the shed, put on some old tapes & tinker.

l figure since the needle can't come out of the roller when installed on the lifter body,, my guess is it wasnt there in the first place, probably (fell out)when whoever changed out the set,the other 3 are in great shape with no movment & the holding pin has been peened as they should . torque plates wont be needed im only scratching the surface, since the bores measure nice & theres no lip in them, im using a flexable hone ,you know the one with the little abrasive balls on the ends, a 240grit ,just to get that cross hatch to seat the new rings...Rings!!! Does Anyone Know Where To Buy Hastings Rings?? l'll phone Harley City on Tuesday But other than that l dont know who to try..

try Redgrave motorcycles Sydney they will have them there into the older girls with good help as well , 02 94849900,

the front exh lifter is the bad one out off the 4 as it is @ a bad angle with the longest pushrod  that is not in line  so is most always the 1st to give trouble  , if there was 1 needle missing from new it would have no up & down movement  it has up & down movement because it stuffed  & worn when they stuff up the wheel skids on the cam & shit's that as well some time the needle's get groung up or get stuck in the scavange oil pump side of the works if there is a bit a score marks in the oil pump body on the scavange side it has gone thru there re place the oil pump gears & 3 drive keys @ least ,  clean out the bottom scavenge return hole in the timing chest before fitting up oil pump & clean out the oil tank proper
