Parking your bike in the Sydney CBD?

Just wondering.  Anyone here who uses their bike to commute into the city?  I'm a little paranoid about parking it in one of the free areas throughout the CBD for fear of getting it scratched, or worse, stolen!

We have a carpark, but I need to do some sucking up I reckon to get access to it. I'm not supposed to park there. If any of the other guys here who ride bikes find out all hell will break loose.

There is a pay carpark down the road that is $12 all day, but I'm even paranoid of leaving it there.

That said, can you guys recommend a good lock to get? I'm still keen to get one even when I park it at home!

My first bike was lifted from a shopping centre carpark in the middle of the day.

Learnt a very big lesson that day.

you didnt mention city but $12 all day parking Im guessing sydney . I have been parking in city everyday for the best part of 4 years now and never a problem. recently I found a private carpark that is charging $110 pm with a dedicated space ... using that now as it saves the hassle sometimes of finding a free spot

I commute now and then but have had one bike written off while parked in the free parking zone.
Courier collected a row of Bikes (Mine in the middle).
Luckily he was picked up on Westpac Security Video.
Ended up getting paid out by Ins Co and kept the damaged bike which I rebuilt.

I still park in city occassionally but know its a risk but I have insurance.

Its a risk but so are many things, FLSTC is right though, sometimes the free bike parking is almost impossible to get.
Seems everyone who works in the city now rides a scooter.

     Hey ConR,

What part of Sydney are you working in?

I've recently found an ace solution up near the Quay but loathe to blab it out. If that works for you PM me and I'll let you in on a secret.

There is also a place in Harringotn Street that will do a bike for $20 day with only about 40 car spaces so the dude can see it all day long if security is important.

I alternate between the FLSTC and the sportbike depending on the traffic on the M2.

    cheers
    Wayne

would it be out of the question to knock on the door of a house near where you work, offer them $10 a day to park by their front door or behind a gate?

at work, we just had a gate put on our bike parking compound with a card access lock, before that, I was the only Harley parking there, now there a 5.
