Hi everyone,
I am brand new to this forum and honestly don't know much (basically nothing) about motorcycles. My family recently inherited a 1984 FXWG Wideglide Shovel head with only 12500miles on the clock. The bike has bearly been ridden since 1989 and has been sitting covered in a garage. It was regularly started and cleaned and appears to be in great condition.
It was imported into Australia from the USA in 1989 and has never been registeredin Australia. I have been told this bike is a collectors edition and very rare in Australia.
I was hoping someone with some expertise on this forum could tell me a little bit about:
- Is this bike a collectors edition?
- Would it make a good investment?
- How much would it be worth?
- Could anyone point me in the right direction to obtain a valuation?
- Would it be too much bike to handle for a newbie?
Thanks to all who have taken the time to read this. I understand this is a forum for enthusiasts and don't mean to intrude, but I would really value some expert advice.
Many thanks
Thanks for the response. I was told by VicRoads as long aI have all the "Import approval documents" and "Customs approval documents" then it can be re-registered. I have a bunch of old freight import documents which are supposed to be the approval documents, but like you said...they are so out of date I'm not sure if they are applicable. VicRoads seemed quite flexible and noted as long as they could prove the import was legitimate, it should be ok.
I appreciate the approximate valuation too. Any recommendations on the best place to sell such a bike?

Throw up a few pics on here, you never know someone might be interested.
I've been told the fact it's a shovelhead makes it more valuable? What does this mean and is it true?
