I have my eye on some second hand shocks for my Softail. Are they any good and what are they worth second hand. Had only a few months on the bike before it got sold but it was about 4 yrs ago. Still in original box with warranty card (worth Jack now). Originally I just wanted to lower the rear a bit then these came up. Any reports appreciated.

Baloffski is quite correct....iv had Fournales on my ol evo softail for ages now & they work a treat once set up...but th valves are a real PITA to access under th bike for adjustment & definitely need th proper pump, which isnt cheap....i use a $70 bicycle pump rated 400psi, but ya need a good course o steroids to be able to pump in th necessary pressures to th shocks.....yep, shocks with a compressor are th go, i think th latest fournales come with a compressor now too..

I have them on my FLHX - they are great. Also had a set on my 94 FLSTN and they sure made a difference. You do need the right pump to make sure they are setup right as everyone has previously said

I can speak with some knowledge of Fournales as I had them on my 09 FXST, good shock to ride on and you can experience the difference between these and OEM can shocks when you travel at quicker than normal velocities over rough road patches or just plain rough roads.

Pluses for the Fournales well engineered with adjustment range to suit everyone, one up, two up and with one up loaded for tripping. Maintainable, spares are available for rebuilding.

Minuses for the Fournales, expensive to purchase and expensive to purchase parts, need to purchase separate hand pump for setting compression and rebound pneumatic rates.

I have taken mine off recently and only because of abnormal wear about the frame bolt/lug hole, noticed a sloppy fit from wear and tear after about 18 months of use. My set came with "O" rings that slip on either side of the aluminium lug along the frame bolt that secures the Fournales body to the frame. The "O" rings are not adequate or fit for purpose as the bolt bearing surface becomes contaminated with road grit and eventually wears the lug eye hole about the bolt, not good enough for the purpose or the expense involved.
I am presently engineering a better solution for my problem.

I might as well mention that I also have been riding around with a set of Race Tech Gold Emulator valves and proportional springs to body mass in the stock front fork slidders. Best money for value modification that you can do to your sled.

Well they seem to have good reports. Just comes down to price now I guess. Trouble is they are so bloody costly to start with, it may hold up the value second hand.

Will also check out the fork mods as well as  I will have them off at the same time to blacken the lower legs.

Ohh. Ohh. Went to Bendago swap meet today and hand no $$$, but saw Fornacators, sorry, Fornales, for a reasonable price, lined up with other, suckers, punters, at ATM.
But am a happy camper. 13 inch Alloy rear shock absorbers, which I do not know will fit my bike, but at least, nice Eddie, gave me a chilled beer as well.
Thanks Mate...Going to see if fit now..Make em  sort out better than stock anyway.
Bloody hell we pay a fortune for a motorcycle, then, to make ridable and safe, spend an other fortune. Is what she is.Ahh.
Ohh. Mrs Baloff gone for weekend. So as cat away, wat they say, could be new, watever... ha..fit up to make motorcycle  safe(er). All good clean fun .aye..
