    Thanks Speedzter.

I think I will use adjustables anyway. If I ever have to get back into the cam chest, I won't have to pull the top end, and for the cost of the pushrods, it's not a bad idea.

    Cheers

Oh yeah... And if I want to swap out the bearings... Do I need both the bearing puller tool and the install tool? They have only done about 6000ks I think. Another $200 bucks in tools for one job. :( Ouch!!

You do realize If you are going to pull the heads, your only a few $$ away from a 103 !!

Really? About another $700 to a $1000 I would have thought - and a lot more work.

$200 to bore your cylinders, and around $300 for a nice SE cast piston.

Yeah man - I am going to do this in stages.

I will do the Cams first and then if I feel the need to go up, then I might look at the 103. For now though, just the cam will do. Might not even worry about the gasket yet. Just bolt the cams in a ride it like a bitch for a while. :)

    Hi B,

I ended up going with the Andrews 57h. Ended up getting them from MnM. Nobody out here had them and was going to have to wait a month.

Got them, Ajustable push rods, Install kit, Oil Pump Alignment tool, Cam locking tool, and a .30 Head Gasket in case I want to up the comp. Delivered for $610.

Pity we don't have a bit of a "tool loan program" on here. It would make sense instead of us all buying a tool that will probably be used once!!

unless someone has one to sell - I am keen! :)

There is a fella on Harley Tech talk that makes a cam bearing installer/remover. A lot simpler to use and cheaper. Got one not long ago and easy as to use.
Can't remember his username but thread should come up in the search function.

Aahah!! Yeah man!! I have started. Have got its guts pulled out. Tomorrow will get into replacing the cams etc and hopefully by night 3 I will have it back together.

I still chewing whether I swap out the inner bearings or not! The bike has only 6000ks on it, so I don't know if I should bother. If so, I will have to wait until I can get the tool.

    Decisions decisions.

     So...

Have done about 30% of the cam swap out, and a coule of things I thought I would mention.

Firstly - Turns out the install kit from Andrews comes with the exact same INA bearings that are in the Fatboy.  Fuckers!!  So in the end, my worrying about swapping them out, was for nothing.  So I didn't.   If I get pantsy I will drop the cam chest again some point down the road and pull them then.  For now, I am not concrened.

Managed to get through the entire install of the cams OK.  Was pretty straight forward in the end.

I was glad that I kept an oil pan under the bike overnight, as I left the cam plate sitting on the bench, and ended up draining the entire compliment of oil overnight.!!  LOL!!

One thing I did notice is this strange coloured bit of oil in the bottom of the Cam Chest.  See the pic below.   Not sure what that's about.

So, the last thing to do now is the pushrods and refill with oil and done.

Any tips on how I should go about the first kick once I top the oil back up?  I did use assembly lube - but didn't go over the top and I want to make sure I don't do any damage when I first kick it over.

    Cheers
