    Hi All.

Just want to know if anyone has dealt with Bikesales Queensland and what you think of them?

I might buy a bike off them and get it shipped to Sydney, but dont want to do that if there is a bad rep.

Looking around $15 k and they have a few bikes at the moment that follow the lines im after.

    Evo Wideglide/Springer style.

    Cheers

haven't delt with them. They are on the gold coast so a few of the members here may have visited the shop. For some reason I am thinking they deal a lot in imported bikes, not that thats an issue

I've noticed Harleys seem to be advertised a bit cheaper in QLD ? some good privatey deals around regularly from up that way to.

Be a little careful, there are a lot of grey imports in QLD. Look at the VIN stamped on the frame ... VIN numbers starting 5HD are Australian delivery ... VIN numbers starting 1HD are U.S. grey imports.

Here in WA, no Harley dealer will trade a "1HD grey import" which should lower their value, but I have seen grey imports advertised for the same price as an Australian delivered model in QLD.

    Cheers,

    Pete

That information about VIN numbers came straight out of the Harley Service Manual.  Maybe it varies by dealer? Perhaps after a certain date?  But it is valid for bikes built after 2008.

Vin's that start with 1HD are US Models, 5HD are International Models

Harley have used the 1hd well before all the imports my 1990 softail sold new in Australia with the old hand engraved compliance plate Maybe thay started using the 1hd with the later bike to identify them as imports to Aus and at the end of the day
Who gives a shit there still American crap that we seem to love And come out of the same factory apart from a few things different anlesll your buying a Indian made bike and even than its still a Harley says so on the tank lol

I think it was around 1999 / 2000 that Harley started to produce export models starting with 5HD. As per a few of the comments (Blueystar and Sparra) above I had a 1998 FLHT which I purchased new from Sy's and it was a 1HD.

The difference is that these days the compliance identifier is that pinkish colour STICKER whereas my compliance indicator on the 98 was the aluminum plate riveted onto the bike.

Bought my 99 Spinger from them and had no issues other than they were a tad slow to get down to the rego dept to put paper work in ... there is no doubt they have the whole biker look ... owner is a huge bugger covered in Tatts but extremely nice to talk to ... I do live in Qld so not sure how the whole shipping issue would be .

In regards to the whole import thing goes , yes they definitely do get a fair majority of their stock from the states ... BUT unless you live in WA where there seems to be some A.Holes running those distributors it isn`t an issue as someone above stated THEY ARE ALL MADE IN THE US of A .

Gasoline Alley here in Qld are bit toffy nosed like some of those places in WA but that is all it is ... some people getting their noses out of place because some have had the audacity to get a better deal than what the Aussie distributors can offer .

The Aussie dollar probably doesn't warrant getting one from overseas at the moment but if the deal is good and you are fairly confident the condition is good then why rip yourself off by buying a Aussie dealer one .

Regarding the debate on the first digit of the VIN....

After 1980, and prior to 2001 , all Harley Davidson VINs started with "1", which meant (at the time) "Made in the USA".

Therefore, all Evos purchased from authorised dealers in Australia had VINs starting with 1, and all 'grey imported' EVOS will also have a VIN starting with "1"

My 1997 FXSTC was purchased new from Frasers in 1997 and is a "1HD" VIN.

From 2001 onwards the VIN 1st digit designator was changed as follows :-

    1 US Domestic Market (2001-on)
    5 International Market (2001-on)

So regarding the question of Australian 'grey imports', a Harley Davidson motorcycle that is in Australia AND was manufactured after 2000 AND has a VIN "1" is a grey.
