Painting front lower fork legs black

Decided I wanted black fork legs in order to tidy up the bad pitting on the alloy/clear coated factory supplied units.

The forks are on a 95 sporty ( so they have seen 17 years of stone chips etc) and looked awful. You can see on the side by side pictures what a difference it made by spraying.

I sanded with 400 then 600 grit, cleaned then off and then sprayed with PPC Blackcoat. Note that I found it best to do one at a time. Also see the piece of metal I used as a handle in order to rotate the leg as I sprayed to get an even coat. Two coats used. Remember to cover the bike well and tape up all the critical holes.

That looks very cool Dave. A great finish in the end. Whats the PPC stuff? Is it like an epoxy or something?

     UG,

No. It is not an epoxy. It comes from a company called Permanent Painted Coatings. Look up PPC on the web and you will see all the products. They specialise in finishes for doing up cars etc. I spoke to them and this product was the best all round for painting stuff on my sporty. The Blackcoat comes in a spray can and is easy to use. Check them out. Note the stuff is expensive at about $46 per can.

ha, nice job, did the same thing on my sporty, but used Duplicolor from repco. 3 coats of gloss black, and then 2 coats of clear, still there looking 'factory' a year later. Prob is, it's so simple to do, you start thinking 'maybe this bit should be black too...."
