Am going up to the Cairns area for a few days and reckon I will hire a HD for a day and take the missus for a ride to Port Douglas and back via the rainforest...

 

Any recommendations for a place to hire from ?  They all seem to be around the same price according to Google, so anyone know of a place that is good to deal with ?

Have looked at doing this also Rocker, let us know how you go if you do it, we are going up at xmas for 3 weeks.

If it's anything like the car rental scheme, make sure any scratches / dents even paint chips are shown to the Hire Company, Just take some pics of the bike before you leave the depot.
If you miss anything on those hire vehicles the Hire Companies go nuts on your credit card later.

Landed up hiring a softail standard from http://www.choppersmotorcycles.com.au/hire.htm . Not cheap but had an awesome day and they were great to deal with. Bike was well maintained and other than a bit of "throttle lag"'couldn't fault the fxst. No problems whatsoever with the state of the bike. There was a dent in the tank that I had not noticed when I left their shop, but they readily admitted that it was there before we took the bike :-). Great day and highly recommended,
