Which tuning modules are locked in to the bike (or more correctly the bike's ecu)?

Interested to know which tuning modules/ecu-piggybacks are locked in to a bike once installed?

I think the screamin eagle ones are.

I am particularly interested in Thundermax and TTS.

    Thanks.

    Thundermax is a replacement ECU
Piggybacks are not locked to the ECU as they do nothing to the ECU
TTS, SERT, SESPT, SEST, PV, all lock to the ECU in the bike

If you were lucky enough to keep an old version , pre 1.6 i think, you can "unlock" the ecu from the tts.
You can still only use it on that particular bike tho. May help with dealer issues or changing tuner?

I have removed the Thundermax systems from quite a few 2007's up to now, as when they get to that age they're troublesome it would appear.

I put the guys onto TTS with their original stock ECM then they're all good

One dude didn't ever get the stock ECM when he bought the bike 3rd hand

bad luck for him, that's HUNDREDS of dollars the poor bastard

If TTS does your model year bike then that's the one to go for !

Only my opinion of course !!

2007 models are on the market September 2006

That's nearly six years now fer fucksake

Warranty yer bare arse mate !

I've seen chafed and shorted wiring

    Water ingress

    Really shite fuel consumption

    Speedos working/not working

    Mis-firing / backfiring

    And the list goes on

The stock Delphi ECM is well good, if it ain't broke then don't fix it I say !

    To Will 67

The original poster asked about "locking" to ECM

I work on Harleys for fun. I have a Monday to Friday "real job" !

I sell nothing , I just advise folks (with no bias) where to buy stuff and fit it up for them .

The TTS system is way easier to "install" than any Thundermax ( or Power Commander even !).

Shops DO like to sell those named systems just to get the labour quotient involved with them.

Just my opinion as I see it .

Oh and it's spelled "Avatar" I do believe, and if it ain't broke , then I don't fix it mate !

Thanks all for input. I was looking at a thundermax on ebay but it's an older model that retails new for $500 USD so the second hand price wanted was a little steep. Still making up my mind on what to go for - no hurry as doing custom paint first and the fuelpak I have is fine for now.

Both my local workshops like working with Screamin Eagle tuners but I wanted something that had some autotune capabilities, which the SE does not appear to have whilst the Tmax and TTS do.

TTS isnt an auto tune unit so you can swipe that.
Has been said before, if you are unsure then go with wateva tuning devise your tuner is competant with.

The old one could if you had a laptop. The new one, from what i can gather, is similar to the way the sepst collects data and stores in the dongle. You will still need a laptop to adjust tune etc but the new unit is still not available.

The Power vision can be hooked up to the power commander auto tune devise now as well so it may also be what you are looking for.

To Sparra ( not having a go mate !)

I have posted nothing controversial or obnoxious !

Just my well observed opinions from my long term Harley ownership and workings .

And they were clearly stated as "My opinion"

I'm not selling anything to anybody , so I'm unbiased in that respect.

I'm a qualified scientist by original ( long time ago FFsake !) training , so my approach is logical .

I don't know who one of the above postings was directed at but I don't give a rat's arse whether some of my queries are not sufficiently appealing for some to contribute to or not.

Back on topic, I am leaning towards the TTS product as my trawling of this forum and others suggests it is a good product, well priced that will enable me to learn to tune my own bike.

The TTS pricing info below doesn't clarify what the dual program comprises - is it simply a better deal for buying two (i.e. one for me and one for a mate)?
I have never heard of magneti marelli - is this just an older efi system?

    2000000 MasterTune Single Program (1 Bike) $425.00
    2000001 MasterTune Dual Program (2 Bikes) $625.00
    2000002 Magneti Marelli MasterTune $425.00
    2000003 Serial Cable Kit $35.00
    2000004 USB Cable Kit $78.95

Lastly, who's selling the TTS at the best price?

Dual program means it will "lock" to 2 different ECM's

Good for a dude with 2 bikes or a "husband and wife gig"

Could work between 2 mates of course. Then one sells his bike and yada yada...

It's still only one tuner dongle , which can't be split

That said it's still way cheaper than buying 2 seperate dongles

I know a guy here in Perth with 5 Harleys, each with it's own SEPST tuning dongle Ffsake !!

And yes, the Magnetti Marelli system is for pre 2001 fuel injected Harleys which are/were rare in Australia anyways.

Sorry if I've missed it fatbat but what year and bike model are you working on ?

I can give you even further advice once I know those details

Wise decision leaning towards the TTS tuner because most guys who have the Mastertune are willing to help if you have any problems leaning how to use it. I've been running one for 3 years with extensive engine mods and exhaust changes over that time and I find it easy to bring the engine back on song with any mod I have performed. Steve Cole the owner of the TTS is always checking this forum to offer his help if needed with anyone having problems leaning how to get the best from his product.
