    Hi all,

Just a quick one for all the gurus, am i better off buying a brand new stock 2012 fat boy or a 2010 fatboy with only 1600k's and all the bells and whistles.

Is thier any benifit in buying new over second hand, is there a huge diference between the 2012 and 2010 models

Go easy on me ok, im new , thanks in advance :)

If it were me, I'd buy the 2010

Bought new once, I see no real benefit over a fully stocked nice used example.

I rode mine outta the showroom, bought and had the stage 1 installed, dealt with unsupportive dealers re the tuning hardware they advocated, had the first service, bought the bits and pieces that everyone else buys only to sell with their bike later.

I knew nothing about Harley...thats why I bought new, but the dealer ain't much help unless you're going to buy up all their stock.

Just my humble opinion.... You have to compare bike with bike

There are a few minor diffs. I have the 2010 Fatty and I love it! :)

    The 2012 have ABS - The 2010 don't.

The 2012 keeps the Km travelled in the ECU - the 2010 does not.

The 2012 ECU is a little different to the 2010.

I THINK - the 2012 are Drive By Wire - I might be wrong here.

These are no big deal, but you asked. :)

If you don't give a rats about ABS (I don't - it makes you lazy) then go the 2010. Spend the money saved on other bling!!

If you were to get a 2012 model with all that gear on it you'd be looking pretty close to $40k

Ahhh yes!! The 2010 is 96 cube, and the 2012 is in fact 103!! :( BASTARDS!!

BUT... that is pretty good value for the 2010 considering the 2012 will be stock!!

I'd go the 2010 and put a 103 kit and a set of cams in it personally

I'd go the 2012 because it's new and as stated by others has warranty, bigger engine and ABS. Why wouldn't you want ABS on a motorcycle if you had the choice?! It only takes one over-enthusiastic emergency braking situation and you lock up the front end and lose the bike. ABS works brilliantly in the wet.
Plus I like the idea of doing up a bike the way I like it as I go...

why not shop around for a 2007/08 model with low k's and some bling for low $20k's  ?  Thats where real value lies .

Its splitting hairs between the 2 choices of the OP .
