Solo reg versus what? Dual?

I just read Mick44's post about his experiences getting info pre-reg, and particularly the solo thing.

Thing is, I've always wondered why my Softail Springer is registered as a solo body type. As far as I know (and it may be a detail I've missed) it's always been registered as a solo (I bought it new in '94). It came off the showroom floor with back pegs and a two up seat and stock standard everything. I just figured that was the way bikes were registered....

Now this didn't really concern me 'cept when I read the comment about it affecting CTP!

Any opinions on what my next course of action should be? Am I running a risk of liability if the missus comes on the back?

I was thinking of taking the missus out on the new bike when it arrives and that post caught my attention too - mainly because I've never thought about it before. I read somewhere that in Vic it doesn't matter, but I remember the lady at the RTA asking me 5 or so years back when she looked over a bike I bought so I have NFI,
I had a read on the Vicroads sites and couldn't find squat so maybe I'm looking for the wrong thing...

Oh yeah, harley, you may be onto it.

I just checked the CTP categories on the gov website here in SA (good idea Bonkerz!), and the only options for motorcycles related to engine capacity, so I'm guessing the solo thing is irrelevant.

Still, if I tell the missus that she'll have to stay at home 'cos insurance wont cover her......nah, if I got caught out....

    Putting this on for info.
In QLD, you can rego a bike for dual or solo rego, Solo rego is half the cost, The three main rules are,
1:remove rear foot pegs and weld up threads, wont accept a bolt placed in hole, (allthough i just got away
with out welding threads up as i argued the threads are used for legal factory accessories.
2:Seat must be a maximum of 500mm long. Can not have padding on guard behind seat.( seat on my 650
trailbike is 700mm long and i got away with it because i argued that 200mm of the seat goes up onto
tank and is designed to protect genitals when thrown forward a bit on the bike and should not be included
as part of the 500mm length, as you cant sit on that part of seat anyway.
3:Must get a mod plate, $75, plate is glued on the frame front downtubes, They dont require the frame to be
drilled and plate riveted, they use a glued on type now.
4:If you reinstall dual gear and dont re register, and have an accident, the passenger is not covered and youll
get a please explain, probably a serious please explain.
Many people have multiple bikes and solo rego is an alternative to being able to afford costs, ect

Does anyone actually two -up all the time? So why would the price be almost double if you're only doing it occasionally? One more money making scheme.

this is the reply i got form the sa.gov.au

    Thank you for your enquiry.

The motor cycle body types are as follows for registration.

All my bikes have had dual seats and rear footpegs, but they've all been registered as "solo". I was only asked once (as I said above) and she answered for me "of course its solo." - to be honest, at the time, I had NFI what she was asking...seems I still don't :P I guess "solo" must mean "normal bike" - except in QLD...
