slow starting after service

I just did the first service on my 2012 Wide glide.

I replaced all three oils with the fully senthetic Bel Ray oils, and change the oil filter. Not much else.

Since then if I ride the bike for a bit, then turn it off, then try restart it it sounds like it is struggling. It has started evert time but seams to take a lot more effort then before the service. Is this due to thicker oil? me doing something wrong during serivce?

The fact that it only happens once it is hot, make me think oil pressure, but dont know where to start. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

     Hey Harley Dude,

I think it's just coincidence mate,  I had a similar issue (it's not really an issue), it's quite common actually.  Try this,  when going to start your bike when engine has been running, don't let the fuel pump do it's full cycle.  Ignition on, you hear the pump doing it's thing and just fire the bike up.  This worked for me.

Bikes are unpredictable like that, one day it just starts being a pussy then the next it's fine again.  Heaps of factors can play a part I suppose but it's not something to sweat about.  Just getting to know your bike.

    Good luck mate,

Stating the obvoius, you haven't overfilled the engine have you, only takes a small amount to cause issues with starting, the crank has to push through more oil, so more force/strain required. The oil itself shouldn't cause any issues, as the Synthetic oil is much more stable compaired to Mineral based varieties. Strange to be harder when hot, as the oil will thin in its viscosity when warm.

As Russ mentioned, the only true way to test the battery is by using a Load tester, something that will make it produce a large current strain to see how the battery copes under load. Batteries can cause problems under hot or cold conditions.

Hard starting warm to hot usualy indicates a problem of some description. Have you had your dealer look at it, it's a brand new 2012 so there's warranty, unless you brought it across from USA????

    Thanks for help guys.

    Battery tested good under load.

But the problem has gone now. I did about 100km on it and that seams to have fixed it. I am intrested to see what happens after I service it next time.
