Went down to re rego my bike as solo reg to enquire as to process. The nice helpful man at the transport and main roads dep,in Brisbane told me that i had to weld up rear footpeg threads on frame.I said real politely, can i place a nice chrome bolt in the thread, No, he said, thats illegal.   I then said but what if i want to go back to dual rego at a later time. The nice man said, the law is the law and he could not make exception. Then i said that i wanted to purchase a left side tear drop toolbox that uses the peg thread as the lower mounting point of the toolbox at a later date, The nice man then said, i could put a bolt in the thread, get solo reg and put toolbox on at later date at my discretion. Waited in queue for two hours to have this stupid conversation with the nice man.

My point is that i could ride out of rego office and do all sorts mods on my bike, if im pulled over, then thats the risk we take, No different that going over the speed limit.

Perhaps its time that laws were passed banning stupid people from being employed in responsible jobs.

i suppose you can always bog up the hole with a little bit of putty or something , smooth it over and touch up with black paint .  easy to reverse.

Don't make any sense ?.. Harleys from the factory with solo seats already on them ( at least on my sportie they do) still have the foot peg assembly bolts threads on them , so all you have to do is add the foot pegs to them to comply for two up riding , I just went from solo to duel seats , just had to Get an engineer to site it and put a mod plate under the seat .
Cost me $120 for the plate .

The rego public servers point is that i might get solo rego and screw the footpegs in and carry a pillion. There logic is that i might break the law. What next, speed limiters on cars/bikes, shit, we might go over the speed limit. And, LOL to the view that im a tight arse, you bet i am when it comes to paying more tax and more tax, ooops, rego. Maybe im suffering from the turned 50, syndrome.

    DICTIONARY:50 SYNDROME

Wouldn't welding the Footpeg mounting points be a modification to the frame, therefore requiring an Engineers report?

you didn't really expect a guy to tell you something other than what the rule is.
yes the rules may be a bit stupid but they are what they are. he is not going to tell you any thing different.
go talk to the minister if you want the rules changed

(Harleys from the factory with solo seats already on them ( at least on my sportie they do) still have the foot peg assembly bolts threads on them)
but these are registered by the dealer as single seat.

(Waited in queue for two hours)
Get used to it, didn't they just sack 2000 staff last week

(The rego public servers point is that i might get solo rego and screw the footpegs in and carry a pillion. There logic is that i might break the law.)
and then in the event of an accident you will have a major issue as you will have no CTP insurance

(its only $400 to rego a bike here anyway ya tight arse lol)
    this is the best info

I was told the same thing back in '95 when I asked about solo rego for my 600 Ducati Pantah.

"Weld up the bolt holes or grind them off" they said. Seems no-one (including me) has bothered to challenge that dumb-arse rule since then...

My point is that rules should make sense. I pointed out to the man that harleys are the most accessorised bikes on the planet, with the widest range of accessories and new accsessories coming out every day including factory harley accessories. Anyone whose been to a bike ralley in America will have seen the 2 000plus tents selling harley gear. I been doing that to all my bikes since 1984. I did point out that i might want to purchase something in the future. The rules are ambiguous at best. What you can and cant do depends on the opinion of the man on the day. I went to another rego office and get this, no worries mate, thats ok but said dont screw the pegs back in. so i admit im wrong. there are sensible public servants out there. I went through this (and won) with my 650 trail bike. They said the seat can only be 500mm long to get solo reg. I stated that a portion,( 200mm) of the seat goes up on to the tank and most trail bikes are designed this way to provide padding for your genitals in case your thrown forward a bit on the bike. They agreed.two bikes at solo rego means more money to ride and thats what it is all about. Less rego costs means more money to ride.

i forgot to add, I dont want to pay dual seat rego as io dont carry a pillion and do not wish t wreck a frame. But if anyone wants to pay extra tax and rego for the good of the nation, feel free, dont let me stop you.

450 as opposed to 215, and while it might not be much over three bike is enough to count, but thats not my reason. I dont want to pay the ( Note to me, Be nice ) the self servers one cent more than i have to.

Have you got a solo modification plate on your bike? If you do then there is no argument. Well worth the $100 or so if you have a few bikes and want to rego them for half price. (its a Qld thing)

You can get bikes complienced without all the technical bullshit thats been thrown at you. There used to be rego in Victoria for solo or sidecar.

What the fuck are you trying to follow the law for anyway? The minute that you start asking question of those goverment douche bags, ya get in the shit. Listen, if the filth want to fuck with you and they can't find anything wrong, they will just make it up anyway. Have been riding over 40years and modded all types of bikes. The only time I have followed the law concerning mods is if it was a safety issue. Thats why we have so many fucking confusing rules, because some autocratic shitbag wants to play fuck around with the rules. I have spoken to some of the best motorcycle engineers in Aus and they can't understand some of the shit that they have in the rule books.
