Do you know what the free length of the sprigs are ? Did you use the springs without the intimidators ? If so was there a noticeable difference with them ? That's the direction I'm looking at going now ,

stock springs and spacers on left, ikon springs and spacer (25mm) on right.  This should help you compare to yours....let us know.

By the looks of your pictures your rear end is high also, is this the reason you slid the forks down the tree's? trying to maintain a level frame?

I put 08 rear shocks on my girls nightster it lowered it an inch , 09's were higher than the 08's as europe wanted higher to Handel but left the front low , so they say

T1, thanks for pic going by your spacer being 25 mm the springs I have would have been about 50 mm longer . Yeah shocks are 14.25 inch so dropped forks by 10 mm , am goin to have 40 mm tube extensions machined one every thing is sorted . I need ground clearance as I ride quite hard and don't like slowing for corners or grinding everything . Side affect of 30 years on sports bikes can't seem to change my style so will change the bike , I know people will say that's not what sportsters are about why not just get another sports bike but it's so much fun seeing people's faces when a Harley passes there sports bike on the twisties .

Glad we now have an answer, they supplied wrong springs for you. You might as well cut them down more now...

To get the length you need in the forks why dont you just use dyno fork sliders? They give on average 2" more length in suspension travel. Do a search on the oldman conversion.

I'm under the inpresion coil springs canot be cut and work properly they work on acting coils and the last coils are flattened and ground flat so cut coils will tend to twist and not be at the right rate of tention .. Wel that's what I was told .. J.D.

Jd . You are spot on that's the problem with what I've been told to do , the more I cut off the stiffer they get , so I'm getting no where . I know I'm going to have to by new springs I'm just waiting for the heavier shock springs first to see if they are going to work , I might end up getting new shocks as well prob ohlins

yeh less acting coils and maybe coil bind ..even reheating and lowering coils fucks them changes the angle of the coil then coil diamitor needs changint too like an equasion oops i waged that class ..J.D.

Hiya Animall, just a quick question, when you ordred your Speed Merchant preload adjusters, were you after tensioning the springs, or adjusting the ride.

The Ricor jobbies have valves (shim stack) to compensate for bike or road input.  In this regard they seem to work differently.  The S.M. is preload only, from what I can discern, ie making the spring firmer/softer depending on the requirement, whereas the Ricor (and other brands) set when the suspension is activated, via diffentiating between road condition and bike weight, ie the inertia valve system.

I've raced and used Fox suspension for mountain bikes and have to say the technology is better explained and more obvious than for motorbikes....

Hope you got on ok with your supplier (YSS) Monday and are getting a satisfactory resoloution (ie money back or correct springs)

    Cheers,

    IE

Hi Eddie , I got preload adjusters just to make it easier to set the sag without keep taking the fork caps off and messing with spacers and it will be easier to adjust as as springs bed in , I have the YSS emulators in with stock springs and they don't seem to do anything at all , I've just ordered richor intimidators and lots of people are saying they work best with straight rate springs so will prob get race tech for my weight . Got new springs for rear shocks today from YSS so will see how I get on with them but he isn't bugging on the front springs

Hi Eddie . No go with YSS at all , so have started again , last of parts for font arrived yesterday so doing forks tonight . Race tech springs , ricor intimidators and dampers , also got a pair of ohlins shocks coming from the states but they will be another week or so , will let you know what I think of front over the week end , I always start by setting sag at 30 mm on the front for road bikes and then adjust by feel from there

Animall, I remember reading that you drilled the stock dampers! If so you will not be able to use the 5w oil that ricor recommends. I believe you will have to use a thicker oil.

Have you looked into using the dyna fork sliders?

t1 , ricor says you can use drilled rods if you have used other emulators , but i have welded the holes to be safe i have also extended my stock rods to 227 as the dyna rods , seriously low on funds now so could not afford to buy dyna rods , its back together now have gained 60 mm in length on forks , will test ride to work in the morning

Front feels quite nice now still need to set the preload properly and front ride height now I have extra fork length to do so but will wait for my ohlins shocks to arrive in about 2weeks , there being built by ohlins USA at the moment , then I can set the ride hight and weight distribution which will determine my front preload setting
