    Gday mate,

Ive got a '12 Superglide Custom, with the same cable I think. Only on the upper pipe goes into a butterfly spring operated type setup??

If its the same, I am led to believe its a butterfly valve there purely for emissions, supposedly to quieten the bike on idle and low throttle. I recently did some work to my pipes and while I was there I removed that cable, held the valve in the open position and welded it open. I wouldnt say it made a massive difference, but I reckon its a little deeper/lumpier on idle. Could be just me.

Some said it would throw an error code but I havent seen anything yet.

    All the best,

    Rod

The actuator closes off one muffler for noise testing at certain speeds. It opens with the start up and closes momentarily, I think, at 60/80/100 to pass the drive by. Otherwise it should stay open with the power on. Most just stick a screw in it and jamb it open. I believe it can be disconnected via the dealer as well.

The active exhaust valve is for emission requiremnents on Australian bikes. The other reason is so the exhaust sensors get to a tempreture  that they operate so to send info to the ECM at start up , ie valve is in the closed postion.  There is a thought that at start up when to disable the active exhust valve let the bike warm up for an extra couple of minutes so the exhaust sensors get the the required tempreture, so as correct info from exhaust sensors is being sent to the ECM.

There are a few ways to disable the Active Exhaust Sensor. ( In your case, you have new pipes with no Active Exhaust Sensor)

Disconnect the wire and cable tie this wire somewhere safe . The wire will still move back and forth about and inch from commands from the ecm. No error codes . ( Not great , but will work.)

Disconnect wire all the way back to the actuator . No error codes.  ( Better , but the actuator will still  turn on commands from the ecm )

Disconnect wire all the way back to the actuator. You then buy a Eliminator thinging, which tricks the ecm that the active exhaust valve is operating.  No error codes. (Better, but will cost about $100).

Disconnect wire all the way back to the actuator. Go to dealer and they will disable the valve via their computer. No error codes. ( Better still, takes about 15 minutes)

As you have new pipes that dont have a valve attached this is probably your best bet as you dont want a cable that my get in the way with something down the track.

    Good Luck.

if you leave the actuator there and just disconect the cable you will be fine but if your going to remove the actuator all togetheryou will need a bypass modual to stop the fault light comming up on the dash.

same with the air box if you change that toa heavey breather you will need a modual for that also they come as a pair, but then its rewcomended if you do both those mods to ad a tuner of your choice there are many out there like the thundermax and tts etc.

here is a picture of my "cheap and nasty" fix

easier to explain what i did. this is not a harley but the principle is the same.

put a small spring at end of cable to trick the ecu that the flap was still working . i had to use a small cable clamp to get the tension correct with the spring that i used. you can see it in the picture .

this is by far the easist way to fix without tripping the error code on modern bikes.

OP's questions seems to be that he has new system. so valve is no longer in place. If so remove all the crap that goes with it and get a plug which will prevent the error code comming up.
