Hey guys, hope some out there can help me out with ignition probs. I have crane hi4 single fire ignition installed on my 94 flstn, has been on for a few years, I've done about 20,000 ks with it. As soon as I get to around 80 - 100 ks (as in distance) it starts to play up and I only have fire on the front cylinder. I have a 42mm mikuni on the bike and the hi 4 is hooked up to the VOES. I have pulled the carby off and give it a thorough clean, have changed coils, leads and plugs but still have the same problems. I have checked all the wiring attatched to the whole thing and that all appears to be ok. I,m just wondering if the module gets to a certain temp and then starts to shit itself ? Has anyone else had the same probs ? If I need to replace it is there a better option than the crane one ?    Cheers Jinx

yep I had a Hi-4 problem, bike wouldnt restart when hot. I changed from the nose-cone module to the external module and no problems for teh last 13 years. However the engine temp after 80 kays would be the same after just a couple of kays. You say only one cylinder fails, so have a good look at the resistance in the wire from the module to that sie of teh coil. If no probs in the wire youd have to bet the module - simply coz youve tried everything else.

When I thought the Crane HI4 was playing up on mine, I got out the misses hair dryer and heated up the module, ran the engine at 2 - 3 k and as it heated up it started to miss and got worse until she would only fire on 1 cylinder. It had other symptoms as well that leaned towards carby issue (Mikuni 42) would foul plugs - often, would backfire going around a roundabout and other shit that just pissed me off.
Replaced it with an Ultima single fire and never looked back.

Hey thanks a lot fellas, I don't think there is anything left to check so I'll get a new one. Not a Hi 4 again though !! Have been doing a bit of research and I like the sound of the Daytona twin tec. Thanks again
