    Hi,

Up grading from a 1200 Sporster to a Softail Deluxe and wondering if there is an advantage in weight, feel and handling getting the Laced aluminium wheels over the laced steel wheels.

Also how do you keep those spokes clean and rust free.

    Thanks EG

weight and handling is unlikely to be noticed.

BUT I think its generally accepted that the chrome spokes of today do not last very long before showing rust .  Personally I would never ride with laced wheels again unless they were an alloy and also sealed so punctures can be fixed on side of road.

Hay UG, The HD write up on the 2012 ali wheels shows they're tubeless? Like most road bikes now adays, I'm not sure on the aftermarket ones tho...?

When I get home, and if I remember, I will C&P from the HD factory PDF I have on my External Drive, goes through the new process, as per newer push bikes, same tech, been used for years now.
You might be able to find it on their (HD'S) American site if you really want to search it.

Man, I hope you're right! As an owner of a 2012 Street bob, I'd have less pucker moments if I knew a roadside flat wasn't going to end my day on the back of a flatbed.

I'm only getting info on touring model options

This new tubeless aluminum rim utilizes a new rim seal and molded valve stem to allow use of tubeless tires. Along with the benefit of easier tire installation, this new tubeless wheel set also provides a 30% reduction in spin inertia according to Harley’s Bjorn Christensen. The obvious benefit of a lighter wheel is less rotational mass, which in turn means lighter effort steering/handling, as well as improved suspension control – all good things for you. This new wire wheel is available for all touring models except the Electra Glide Ultra Limited.

Harley do make tubeless spoked rims. May go for these on my Deluxe purchase. Its essential to be able to fix flats on the side of the road with a plug, at least to be able to get to a town. As far as the cleaning of spokes no choice as the Deluxe is not available with any other wheel option.

Has anyone had any experience with the Harley Switchback, that was my other option and they do come with a tubeless rim?

    Thanks
