Popping sound

I'm thinking of buying a 08 StreetBob. It has stage 2 103 heads on it and has a screamin eagle pro tuner. When you accelerate hard and then back off, there's a loud popping sound. My mate says its normal if you have it auto tuned with the SE pro tuner, but if you use a thunder maxx it doesn't pop. Is this correct or is my mate feeding me BS?

Sound like its running lean, not to sure about your tuner but I'm sure a good HD dealer mechanic can get the poping out with the tuner you have on the bike.

The good thing about the thunder max with auto tune you don't need to dyno to tune.

Some dyno techs can be expensive, not to mention they rev the ring out of your bike over and over again to get it tuned.

I have the thundermax on my ride and am very impressed with it.

Yeah, had battled the same thing on my bob, can be tuned out. They may have not altered the map after the 103, it may be running too lean, or it might have an exhaust leak.

Either way, can be tuned out (or re seated if it's an air leak).

    Where are you located?

What exhausts are on the bike ? You have not said.

If it's V&H straights then the "popping" is all part of the deal with them.

Even the Harley dealer here in Perth won't guarantee to totally negate decel popping with V&H.

Yeah it's got V&H short pipes on it. I had a chat with a HD mechanic and they said that the short ones will make a popping sound when you decelerate, so that was a relief.

I have V&H straight shots on my fxdc and had decel poping
I fitted V&H VO2 air and a Fuelpak and no more popping.

I know Fuckall about Harleys but it was simple and worked for me

The Kuryakyn website has a huge range of TTS "custom" calibrations for all sorts of pipe combos

Often mentions the pipe system in question by name ie. " V&H Short shots"

Softails / Dynas / Touring / Sportsters even . All in model specific dropdown menus

"Free" downloads. How good is that ??

    Only for TTS however

They're worth a good try if you're a TTS user

I've used them plenty across the Harley range and they work well. No Dyno time required is all good by me folks !!

Should clarify in my experience the SEPST canned/download maps are lean.
