     Hi there,

I own a 2009 streetbob and want to change from a belt drive to a chain sprocket. The reason I ask is I want to do some long miles through Australia again and want to be as self reliant as possible.

Can someone give me some advice on where and who I  would buy this from and what their experience was with the change.

    Cheers

    Maus.

If the only reason for changing it is people believe that the chains are longer lasting (They also need lubricating more often and throw lube all over the place), Grottie a member on here with a 03 dyna sport got 76,000k off his belt.

    Maus....don't do it.
My 85 FXWG, completed 176k, hole in the belt at 80k and new rear pulley at 120. Sill original front pulley when I wrote it off.
My 96 FL has 142k on original belt and pulleys, done the Gibb river road and the CREB track, been pulling a chair for ~20 000 ks.
My 07 Springer has +80k and has never had the belt tightened.
My other 3 motorcycles have cahains and I dont like that fact

I ran a 3 guyz chain conversion on my 2007 dyna, went back to belt for ratio reasons only, just this week got the ratios sorted again and went back to 530 chain drive.
If you ride like a maniac, or ride on dodgy roads the chain is unbeatable. If ya ride like a soggy biscuit, the belt will see ya well

Hey thanks for the advice. I don't ride like a maniac but I do a hell of a lot of dirt road riding and although I cannot see any wear on the belt yet there is a few chips out of the pulley.
I like going to unusual out of the way places. The Simpson Desert being one of them, different bike but chain driven when I went there.
Thanks again for the advice I will let you know how it goes.

    Cheers
