     Hey guys n gals.

My front forks need a rebuild due to being able to twist front wheel while holding bars.

Rather than rebuild them, and also I'm told the front sits a tad lower than rear.

Id like to upgrade them and raise front a couple of inches.

Firstly do you put bike on a hoist and measure them from top to bottom?

2nd I'm tossing up whether to go a springer front or standard forks?

Would the springer be rough as?

Id also like to upgrade front brakes and the trees also.

Not sure where to go here and what the pros and cons are.

Be gr8 to get some advice from you guys in the know.

    Cheers Pete

a springer would be 2 steps backwards  if you have & early FXR with 35 m.m. forks . you could up grade too a 1988 up 39 m.m. with twin disc brake & a fork brace , or pick up a late 49 m.m. front end  , ,a springer would look funny on & FXR they are a good sport tourer type bike

Thanx guys, not happy with the springers I see.
I measured the top of forks and they are 41mm,I'm told it's a wide glide front end.
Could I buy a newish front end 2nd hand?
    Where should I be looking?
    Cheers

hi what is the front brake on the 41 mm front end you already have  + what year model is the forks  if they are the later type you could re work those & save the bucks , be careful  there's a lot of aftermarket crap out there  in 41mm forks taiwian etc

From what I can tell the front caliper is a single piston early hd type.

Dont know how old the forks are?

Thanks Daddyracer, just measured my disc and it's an 11 1/2".
If the rain holds off I might go to Birds Bitz today and checkout his forks in stock or what is available.
