Now an owner of a 1997 Electra glide Std albeit in rather poor condition after standing for 15 years under a plastic cover under a verandah in Fremantle. The rust is rather bad on the chrome and all the alloy bits are covered in oxide so much polishing to be done.
Not sure how it runs but with only 2299Km on the clock it should be OK. The project is to bring it back to life and then let it out on the open road. Not a bad way to spend the winter months in the shed tinkering with the bits and gettinga feel for a great machine and how it works.
I will be a regular on the forum as I know there is a wealth of knowledge out there and I need all the guidance I can get as this is quite different to tractors and farm gear.
The picture is how the bike arrived in the shed after we extracted it from its resting place. There was a huge rats nest under the cowling and the remains of ivy creeper around the engine and wheels but basically all is good and now it is "full speed ahead".
to the forums Navvy, you wouldn't be an old Jack Tar would ya?
Not this bloke. I am a landlubber from way back.
No not a nautical person but a navvy from way back. I am an ex-farmer and I reckon with all the hard work I have put in over the years the "navvy" title is well earnt. I do beleive the term comes from a lumper on the wharves in early english times when the Navy personnel loaded the ships thus navvy being a hard working labourer.
I think this bike might also be go for the term as it is being a bit of hard yakka at the moment so I look forwrad to the day I can stab it into life and ride into the wind.
Fair Enough Navvy.
To your question Johnnybegood, Yep ex Pusser.
As u said good project over winter, all the best with it as a ex farmer it should be a bit of a stroll for u compared to farming!
same here, was in for 10, served on submarines at HMAS Platypus before it moved to WA, good and bad times!
Only did 6, but what a 6 it was, involved in Desert Storm twice on the Darwin. That was a eye opener.
Welcome Navvy.Post some before and after pics.
Welcome Navvy. The hard work to get the monster mobile can be as satisfying as the ride itself. Enjoy.
Welcome
