Fitted the XR1200X caliper onto my Iron yesterday, and braided brake line. Caliper bolted straight up, no mods needed. Got the brake line from motorcycleracegear.com.au which is a HEL line.

Havent been for a big ride yet as it was drizzling when I finished, but the 100mts I did up the street shows a huge difference in braking and feel - very happy!

Will post more after I've been for a decent ride (hopefully Tuesday)

I'm keen to hear more PK, its been on my list of things to do for some time now. Also i have seen a few threads on the net where they needed to mill some off the inside as it would just touch the rim when turning (all wheels will have some flex) and put small marks all the way around.

I've got mine in the shop getting done now, as well as the 1200 conversion, cams and a dyno. Put the braided lines on a few months ago which helped but hoping the calipers will do the trick, I'll let ya's know how it goes.

T1 apparently the later Irons have to mill a fraction off (less than a mm), not sure what the difference is but mines a 2010 and bolted straight up with no issue at all.

Not sure if you've seen this link but there's a thread running on the XR caliper, http://www.hdforums.com.au/Default.aspx?tabid=71&forumid=1&postid=275005&view=topic, have a read of my post (with pictures) for clearance issues.  I tried to put descriptive info beneath each picture so others could understand the issues with alloy wheels.  Fitment is an easy job, just check the clearance as noted between spoke and caliper before you ride (unlike me, I found out after rotating the wheel) and you'll be stoked!!!!

I read the other comments too and this helped (after I ballsed up the inital fitment).   It's like the old carpenter trick measure twice cut once, I should have read twice....

Comments from others helped me and this site was good to use, so good luck to you.

    Cheers

T1 the box has 42943-08 which is LH front from Xr1200x. I just asked Sam at hh ringwood. Braided line was from motorcycleracegear.com.au Alex supplied sensational service, and was $80 delivered. Banjo fittings at both ends are 10mm. mine was 800mm, yours would be a fair bit longer!!

does the caliper come with pads?

The only thing to check is that the caliper clears the spokes. Apparently some later models will touch slightly. Just check before you go riding!
Go the braided line later on, you won't regret it!

    Hi guys,
Just a question about the braided lines. Want to fit HD drag bar without risers and XR calliper on a 2011 48. Are the HD lines 41800178, One Piece - 34" the right ones? 34" should be around 800mm.
    Cheers,
    Peter

Pete, use a piece of string cut to 34" and use it to work out if it will be too long/short!

When I fitted my caliper it went strait on and missed the spokes after a30 min blast on a very twisty range hard braking every 20 - 30 seconds or so the caliper expanded with the heat and then started rubbing the spokes . A long ride home without using the front brake , got home tapered off the bottom edge of the caliper now no probs . Just be carefull for first ride if lots of heavy braking , ride safe

Yeah apparently the later models are a fraction closer to the rim, mines a 2010 and I've had no issues.
    Don't know what's changed over the 2years?
