I think they are suppose to scare away bad spirits from the road, but if ya believe in bad jojo on the road then ya should stay off it

I bought two of the "Southern Cross" bells and gave em both to me mate, he then was able to give one back to me in keeping with the tradition of the power of the bell being doubled if given.
We both do alright, and it's one of those funny little things, even though we've been mates for many years, the Southern Cross Bells seem to be one of those things that solidify our comeradery.
And don't forget the bit about every time you clean the bell, it' reminds you of lost brothers.
