Hello  Ladies and Gents  and the Odd Alien visitor

Can someone please enlighten me to my dilemma?

Which way do I put these bloody sleeves in the lugs to my new tank.

I have bought a bigger tank and this one has rubber mounts. After looking at it now I was struck with Arrggh what side do the sleeves go. I have 4 of them and wonder do they go in with the flange side to the outerside or the innerside of the tank lugs ?

I added the pics to help  if it does hehe

    Thanks in advance

Yes Scotty they are 2 different thickness flanges/shoulders. I assumed there are 4 as there are 4 mounting lugs and 4 rubbers 2 in the front and 2 at the back.So the mounting bolts will go through the lugs through the frame and the secured with a nut as supplied. All this came in a box when I bought it unpainted.

The bike is a 92 sportster I am replacing a 2,25gl tank with an aftermartket 3.3gl tank I think thats the size anyway. then once thats on all thats left is to get my seat picked up from the upholsterers and finally get my ass out for a ride. This has taken way longer than I thought to have completed.

    Thanks Scotty

Have also contacted someone this morning and they have an engineering background. If they can come round more might be explained to me.

i still cant see the reason for having different thickness shoulders as they wont and cant be used as a spacer kind of thing.

Hi, they all go on the inside, thick ones on the front with the longer bolt and 2 washers. Thin ones on rear underside with shorter bolt and 2 washers.

Hey Scorps, what are you going to do for paint on the new tank? The re-built seat and tank mod are a great improvement for these bikes. Post some picks!

Hehehehe its all undercover till I am finished .and be rest assured there will be pics to follow soon as I can find a decent camera and not a fone cam

In my opinion it looks HOT exactly how I pictured it in my head 8 months ago when the thought first arrived.

The seat as you can see in the avatar size pics was changed from a pillow pillion with back rest to a single (Original seat I got from EBAY) this will be reshaped and recovered.

Had it all together and went for a few rides but had to pull the rear shocks off. Unhappy with the set up as there wasnt much purchase on the threads so I have to get someone (Dad) to turn down the nuts (not original as previous owner stuffed them up) and the spacers turned down too. To close tothe end and only hanging on with about 3 threads.

My concern was if I got into a spirited ride and they came loose my ass would be draggin all over the road if not worse places.

Can someone tell me if they have seen my pic of the bike or did I forget to add it here. Been hectic with meedical shit within the family again, hospital appointments/operations made then cancelled by the haopsitals them selves. We hope the last op on my wife will be soon. Uncle Ho the boy is fine now all issues gone, Daughter is weaning of her meds after 9 1/2 years on them.

    Nyaway aenough of that

Get back to riding hehehehe I will be once I am happy with the setup
