2012 Street Bob Exhaust Has Cracked It!

My 2012 Street Bob, with about 2500 km's, started to make a really nasty rattling noise when I started it.  I thought it was from the exhaust somewhere and couldn't locate a loose bolt etc...

I dropped into Harley Heaven to get it checked out... Ooops - a crack about 3 mm wide, just near the active exhaust valve, the whole way around the diameter of the pipe has appeared!

That's shit. It shouldn't happen and u shouldn't have to wait that long.
They should put on something aftermarket for nix under warranty

Wonder how many more faulty exhausts are out there?

stuff welding it get them to stick on an after market so you still have a bike while you wait for the replacement or they can loan you a bike in the mean time

These things happen, but that's not say I should expect the exhaust to fail because I only payed 22k!

Has anyone seen a failure like this. It's near the weld. Would in be a stress crack or something like that. It doesn't look like a tear and the chrome is a little discoloured (blue) near the crack.

Should be good to see if they get you a replacement muffler within a month. My vote is 2 months and 14 days - and I'm being optimistic.

if you have a look at the first picture at the weld spatter on the exhaust valve housing it looks like its been welded/repaired before? shorley there quality control is better than that lol and that probabaly explains the discoluration/blueing of the pipe in that area.

Thanks for the offer hmmm. I appreciate the generosity but you shouldn't have to be he HD spares back up department!
HD said that it should be ok to ride the bike and that it will just sound terribl!. Admittedly I took the bike in on Friday Arvo, so I'm guess I'm luck to get it seen to at short notice.
Mabe I should start riding my push bike to work if the replacement will be delayed...

Am I at risk of causing further damage to the engine with this crack/leak?
The exhaust leak would surely create a different back pressure scenario.

There is meant to be a bracket that goes between where that has cracked and the hose clamp before it and bolts under the bolt at the bottom right of picture, kind of like the one that holds
the front header to the timing cover.Part number is 65946-07.My 2010 dyna has'nt got one either even though it is listed in the parts book as a part that should be there it is'nt.When I asked the dealer why it was missing they just acted dumb, must be a miss print in the book.Yeah rite more like a cost cutting measure I said.

    WAZ...

I plan to ring the dealer on Friday to check the progress of my replacement. If no progress is evident, I will ask to speak to a manager, or speak directly to HD.
It sounds like a known fault and a little irresponsible of HD to continue to sell the bike with this exhaust system.
I rode the bie today and it sounded terrible. In fact it was very off putting and makes reading the bike very difficult.

How about saying you'll put up with an after market exhaust eg Vance and Hines, until your new one arrives.

    Seems fair to me.......

Cracked the exhaust on my 2012 fxdb in the same place with about the same kays.

    Pretty poor considering the kays.

Ended up fitting v and h pipes anyway, even then was a drama due to o2 sensor sizes

Had the same with my street bob at 7500ish Kays, they said something about bracket being different with the slip ons to the original muffler, they welded another bracket on and has been good since (now got around 13.500).
Bit that pissed me off is I didnt get the phone call to say my new header pipe is in and after 2 phone calls to them they tell me its sitting there waiting for me to come in and get it fitted.... Shit customer service as well as shit parts

Not good i say, the other dissapointment is the fact that a near new model/models that are still being sold to this day, and HD aust doesn't have any replacement exhausts to call on at a moments notice for warranty work! WTF is that about. Is it true that when a new model is sold in a country there is supposed to be a quantity of spares just in case of crash damage or warranty work, let alone if joe bloggs wants to buy one cause he scratched his.

Is this correct? Can anyone shed some more light on this theory? I think its very poor but i hope i'm wrong.

With the amount of cracked exhausts just here on the one thread leads me to think this should be worthy of a factory recall. Whats going on in other countries?
