Trip around Australia

Hi all. I've got a 1997 road king and a 2002 BMW GS1150. I'm taking my young bloke around Australia, and I can't decide which bike to take. I'm towing a trailer and will be camping and cooking the whole way.

I think the BM is the better bike, it's got 65000 K's on it and is still like new.

The roadking's got 68000K's on it and I've rebuilt the motor, fitted new primary chain, tyres and final drive belt, and brake pads.

Would you take the BM or the roadking?

I'm going to the rallyman rally near Kyogle this weekend on the roadking, so I'll be back in a few days.

    Thanks,

                Rick.

Sounds great lucky buggers. If it were me i would choose the one that is easier to roadside repair and get spare parts for.

if your going around australia then its an easy answer , and you already know the answer - the BM

it will allow you to hop on a dirt road to nowhere without worry ..... when i went Sydney to Darwin on the Heritage , there were so many dirt roads to interesting sites that i reluctantly didnt go on .. the reason why i then got an adventure style bike ...

what is the issue with HD and dirt roads?
    have you concidered slow down?
    Wash the bike after?
    Riding lessons?

The Harley will tow the BM on a trailer for when you want it, and you can take both

    G'day again. Thanks for that.

I'm surprised the BM wasn't shot down in flames here. Testimony to how good a bike it really is. It eats up everything I  throw at it, but it's boring, no fuss, and got no soul. Fell out of the ugly tree too. From the front it looks like this

    The Roadking's a hoot!

I've done a lot of miles with a trailer behind the BM, so I know the BM's up to it. I'm not going on my trip till next year, so I'll stick a towbar on the roadking and do a few miles and rallys with the trailer behind it. The roadking is surprisingly sure footed on dirt roads. I'm more worried about the drive belt than anything else.

Anyway, thanks again. I'll catch up later.
