      Hi,

I was issued with a self clearing Defect notice for my Handlebars in Qld last weekend by Task force Hydra. They had the road blocked off and singled out motorcycles only. Issuing numerous fines and defects. The officer (hmmm) has reversed the first two letters of my rego plate ( KX instead of XK ).

Does this make it invalid ?

If I dont ammend, does the owner of the rego # KX --- have his rego cancelled ?

    Any info will be appreciated

If it's anything like Victoria, probably not, did they record your license details as well?

Im the first to raise a stink if some scum gets off on a technicality  ...

But , i reckon its worth a punt not to do anything and see what happens ......after all , what;s the worse that can happen ?  A reminder ? or it re-issued ??? pfffft !

Surely a good lawyer would point to the officers incompetence at writing down a number plate, brings into question his ability to measure the bars??

I'd say if you took it took court you'ld be pissing away money. He wrote down a couple of letters backwards - no doubt the mistake was made because he was hurrying so he didn't take up any more of your valuable time...*cough*. Judges make insanely stupid calls, but not in our favour.

what do you have to do with a self clearing defect notice?

yes it is a stupid question, as if you don't have to prove you have fixed the defect, what is the issue

Jeez, because no one here has ever written down a a name or number wrong...
Tough break on getting the ticket, but is it worth the hassle to fight it on a technicality if your in the wrong anyway?

25 mins on side of the road, no worries - its my time,.... *cough*, your the one thats paying for their wages, fuel, overtime on a sunday, protective vests.... etc... to give incorrect documents to the general public... for 50 mm wider either side than legal.

I take pride in my ride, and it actually helps in the control of my bike. yeah, well there illegal, .......Im just against the way they conduct themselves..... where not the  outlaw bikers, but where the ones paying for it. WTF?

If i get pulled up again, and their not legal, Mr plod said its a $1,200.00 fine !

So im just hoping if someone has experiance with police  dislexia, I might save some my self a lot of hassle.

    Cheers

Total width. so it  works out to outside grip, to out side grip - no more than 900 mm

And no less than 460 mm

It's in the ADR here for you to interpret http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2006L02301/27327850-fcbc-4566-9fc4-6bcbd8a04c3c

    Cheers

I wonder if you could argue that a hand grip is not a handle bar. The ADR specifically states "handlebar", no mention of with grips fitted???
