Thanks watto, thats about the same. You think it might have a design fault. Never heard of anything like it. Thanks again. Ft

I'm guessing they haven't done many K's, if thats the case your just running them in, you'll go through the oil, starts using less oil later on when run in.

Mines done 10,000K's and I now use bugger all oil.

Mine also uses oil about Watto's rate, and i've got 6300 on it. Have been told it won't free up/run in until 10000, possibly more on it.

When I bought my 09 NRS I was told to take it easy for first 100 or so k's then give it too her, okay did what I was told but found it used around 1.25 lts of oil per 1000 klm's! That is just not right and was pissing me off after I spent all this money on a new bike.

I informed them and was told to keep running her in and I tried everything, had about 8000 on her then and a couple gallons oil later!

My opinion is that it was too late. If you don't run them in hard from scratch they don't bed in, it may have been something else, but???

I contacted HD Aus. and gave them all the particulars about the bike and received via email of confirmation of my email. I was told to take bike to dealer for a check over. Not 100% sure what happened but the motor was rebuilt as I believe it was a mess in the bores.

Since then I have not put much oil between changes, maybe 200ml's all up and now running like a dream and that's how it should be! You should never have to place that much oil in a bike. Never been a problem on my others!

Anyway that was my experience, all good now but make sure HD Aus. knows about it before warranty expires.

    Cheers

Thanks NRS09, mind me asking which dealer ?

I personally don't believe its right myself, got 8500km on it
and still going thru 1.5 liters every 1000km or so.
Got one more year of warranty but I'm not waiting any longer
You would expect something better from a motor that had been engineered by Porsche - I would hope so anyways.
Thanks guys for your input - much appreciated

Went through oil like it was going out of fashion till i got to 8k.

Swapped out to amsoil and the amsoil filter when i had the 8k sevice done and have put another 4k on the bike since.

Has not used a single drop.

Dont know why am not advertising just saying it how it is.

Hey T, remember the early LS1's that GMH had concerns with over oil usage? They replaced lots of oil guzzlers 'cos its not right for a new engine to be using that much oil.
Definitely report it to the dealer mate and get something done.
