Gday, just joined this forum so I hope some one can help. I have just bought a 2003 Fatboy anniversary model. This is the 1st HD I have owned, but I am getting heaps off back fires and quite often she just dies when I take of from lights etc or pulling up unless I keep giving her heaps of revs, the dealer told me 91 Octane was fine, it was really bad, I went to 95 and that has made it much better but I have now put a tank of 98 in. My question is does anyone know if this will help and being a carby model is it ok to run 98 octane. Any suggestions or help greatly appreciated, cheers mwez

Thanks for that, I reckon a good tune might be good place to start and see what happens from there, so 98's no problem by the sound of it, thanks appreciate your help folks.

Thanks everyone for the info, fcked if I know i might just take it back and spend the bloody money and get a full service and tune, that way if they fck it up its their problem. The 98 does appear to have helped plus the last few rides I have really been giving it a fist full of throttle through the gears and it seems to be getting better so I am now wondering if it's been a while since it's had a good flogging and the carbon has built up Cheers

mate 98 runs good all the way 95 will run fine in your motor, but I would say you've got carby issues

98 bp only , your carb jetting  & mixture is not set up + would be best too clean fuel tank 1st  etc then jet carb , they are very lean from the factory
