Hi everyone, what a great site.  I'm picking up my 1st harley - a 2012 fatboy, next week.  I've waited a long time for this, & have been reading the forum pages for months now.  Its great to see how everyone shares their knowledge & experience with each other, i have learnt so much from the members already.

Anyway, counting down the hours, minutes, seconds till the bike is mine & i can hit the road.

If anyone can give me some ideas on Jackets & boots it would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Woodsy

Hi Woodsy, being a newbie I went through the jacket & boots thing recently. I ended up buying a Dri-Rider jacket as pretty hot here in Qld. It is not very Harley like but has been great as can breathe. Bought some Johnny Reb (Rascals?) after looking at all sorts of types. The boots are really comfortable & easy to walk around in (not like some of the boots I tried & was told I should get by helpful sales pple). I am not the dress up & act like SOA type of harley owner but also didn't want to look like Casey Stoner just stole a Harley!!! Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, i suppose it just all comes down to what is comfortable for the person, and the level of safety they want
But at least i now know what goes where - hahaha

Mate, it starts with a Jacket and boots, then you start buying nothing but jeans and tshirts and more boots and more jackets and then all you end up wearing is motorcycle gear.

I still wear my Dri rider jacket from when I rode dirt bikes, and glad I never sold it. As for boots, I wear my good old work issued Oliver lace up steel capped boots, most comfy boots I ever wore. I know I can count on them if I get into any kind of trouble too. Recently bought a pair of Rider weather proof pants for those cold winter days.

Welcome woodsy , lots a gear on evil bay , bought boots from U.S. ,just order 1 size bigger than your aussie size . Like underground , you,ll start with 1 of everything, then get more . Leather jackets are not waterproof , but great to ride in .Dri rider types are 100% waterproof ,so you nearly need 2 jackets straight away.

grabbed a couple of jackets & helmets yesterday (open face - of course), going to check some boots out today. Does anyone recommend yellow tinted glasses / goggles for night riding, or possibly a set of day/night glasses? I saw some at a shop $170.00 per pair, thought it was a bit steep, but i will have a look around price wise.
3 days to go - yeh hah
