Just bought a 2010 Street Bob, love it but onil had it two days and on the third ride the engine seemed to lose power suddenly as I was riding in 3rd gear at about 40kph. Then suddenly it came to a sudden stop and threw me onto the road. Not too much damage to the bike luckily but I got a bit battered and bruised - 1st stack in about 20 yr! Bike started after being picked up and can be pushed in neutral or with the clutch in. I haven't tried to ride it again because the clutch lever is ground down to snapping point.
The bike shop is taking it back under warranty to see what the problem is but they say they don't have a clue what could have happened. The road was straight with no oil or potholes, really seemed to be something to do with the bike, unless I was doing something wrong but I can't think what. Any suggestions??
Glad your not too hurt...Did you happen to touch the front brakes as it sounds like you may have had a lock up...But only guessing...
My first guess was it dropped down a gear or gears (for whatever reason) and you get the huge pullback/surge which could have thrown you....but 3rd at 40 dropping to 2nd? Doesn't sound like to much of an effort...
I'm beginning to think you're all right about the gears. Ridden Jap bikes all my life and currently have a Kawasaki 1500 Vulcan which doesn't mind lugging at low speed. This is my 1st Harley and from what you're all saying, it's a different animal all together to ride! Maybe I've just learned an expensive (and painful) lesson but I'd still like the bike shop to look at it to put my mind at ease. Still can't wait to get back on and ride, it's sad to have it just sitting there. Reckon I'll be really careful about gear selection from now on!!
