New Install

    Hi Guys and Gals,

Not sure this is in the right section but I need some help in identifying my existing set up and then installing appropriate TTS or similar if required. Here's a bit of background info.

Bike     2006 (11/05) Dyna Lowrider FXDLI

                 Screaming eagle Baloney cut exhaust

I have no idea what else may have been done. I have looked back through some of the service history and can see the purchase of the pipes but nothing by way of intake or ecu upgrades. I purchased from a dealer and have books etc and address of previous owner bt I really didnt want to other him unless I have to (although he doesnt live that far from me.).

Bike is running very lean (I think) on decelleration as has a noticeable popping sound (Pull clutch in and it goes away).

Seems Ok on accelleration as not flat at all but I am not as certain about that.

Rider   I am around 105 Kg and will be 40% 2 up with Mrs who is 58 Kg. It has standard suspension but this will very soon be upgraded to Progressive 412's HD with Progressive fork springs. All standard OEM length.

This is my first Harley coming from Sports/Naked and classic bikes. This is the first non carburetted bike I have owned.

    I would like to know:

    1.  How can I identify what if any upgrades have been made to ecu etc as I thought something would have been done re: new exhausts.

    2.  If I am running too lean on decelleration would a TTS style unit be appropriate to fix.

    3.  I am a novice with Fuel Injection systems and mapping so is this difficult to install and "map"

    4.  Does "mapping" need to be changed dependant on Climate, Altitude, riding style etc or is it set and forget.

    5.  Should I do a baseline dyno run somewhere before I start all this.

    6.  I am thinking of a S & S or Screaming Eagle Big Bore kit in the next 12 months or so as the bike will need a freshen up soon as done

around 110,000 klm's. Will I need to change the TTS ( or similar) unit then or is it a "remap" type situation.

    Thanks and Ride Safe

    Nigel

You are in a very similar position to me, I have decel pop from 2800rpm down to around 2000rpm. This is AFTER the install of pipes, heavy breather AND a tuner.

By all reports DECEL popping can be tuned out. Its frustrating, I know.

Most tuners plug into the ECU and help you alter / upload a new map from the tuner and into your bike, once they're unplugged, they're unplugged and end up in the socks and undies drawer.

EVERYONE will have an opinion on a tuner of choice, all tuners should be able to adjust the decel fueling tables to acomodate for the lean condition, BUT you need to have a pretty good idea of what you're doing, or acess to someone who knows more than you.

Mapping provides a program for the ECU to run under all conditions, certain tuners will 'learn' and accomodate for altitude changes / humidiity and the closeset proximity to a cowfart. Some dont.

A good dyno tune is worth its weight in gold to a novice, a bad one will put you in a similar position... asking questions.

Any tuner you buy now, will help you in the future, it will be there to help you alter the map to accomodate mods.

    2.  If I am running too lean on decelleration would a TTS style unit be appropriate to fix.

It fixed it on my sportster 1200 after vtuning.

    3.  I am a novice with Fuel Injection systems and mapping so is this difficult to install and "map"

A monkey could do it with the TTS, as long as you read the info.

    4.  Does "mapping" need to be changed dependant on Climate, Altitude, riding style etc or is it set and forget.

If you do TTS vTune then you have set the bike up for your area etc..............

    5.  Should I do a baseline dyno run somewhere before I start all this.

Save your money and buy a A/C for your bike if it still has the stock A/C, vTuning is dyno tuning without the dyno

A typical VTune screen after 30 minutes of riding is shown below, Figure 4-14. For comparison purposes, a VTune run taken on a dyno is also shown. The Dyno run allows access to regions that are difficult to get and maintain during closed course riding – but, a closed course VTune session will cover 95 percent of your normal riding conditions!

    6.  I am thinking of a S & S or Screaming Eagle Big Bore kit in the next 12 months or so as the bike will need a freshen up soon as done

I would start the vTuning again as you have changed your engine setup.

I'm redoing my vTune now as i have changed my A/C to a Screamin' Eagle® Sportster® Stage I Air Cleaner Kit

when looking through some receipts seems had a powrr commander 111 fitted at same time as pipes.
Now I need to search a bit more. I might spend a hour or so looking under side covers seat etc
