    Gday all.

Just wanted to say hi to all you HD fans. I have been a guest on your forum for a little while now, and I must say its a great forum. The kids are almost grown up now, and able to look after themselves,so its time to get back on a bike.  I am about 3 months away from getting the funds to purchase my first HD. I am just having a little trouble from deciding between a new Softtail delux or a Roadking classic. I have been told a few things about both bikes in regard to the suspension setup, which I need help with from you hardened HD riders in making the right choice of which bike to purchase. I have been told that the softail suspension is not that great for carrying a lot of weight when two up (which I will be doing most of the time), because of the suspension bottoming out on bumps, and that the touring frame with its external shocks would suit two up riding alot better. Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated, as it's a lot cash to outlay only to find out on our first long trip that the bike isn't up to it. Thanking you all in advance. Hope to see you out on the road one day. Cheers.

    Welcome Baron.
Best is to test ride as many as you can. I have been on softails for the last 15 years and regulaly ride the eastern states on a gunslinger seat. Mate has a roadking and it is more suited for longer trips.

Hi Baron and welcome,I myself am a newby.Your talking about two completely different styles of bike so put alot of thought into it and I reckon it depends on what you want to do but having said that you can do pretty much the same on both anyway,if ya gunna do alot of two up touring go the roady but either will be good bikes.

G'day Baron, I have gone down the same track........I had a 2003 Softail Standard and really it's not up for 2up touring, just ask my wife. I decided that I wanted to upgrade and if I stayed with the Softail range my choice would have been a Delux. A mate has one and he rekons it's the most comfortable bike he has ridden. However he doesn't ride 2 up as his missus has a Sporty.
I hired a Road King Classic about 18 months ago in QLD and it was fantastic for 2 up riding. Wife gave it the thumbs up big time. I really like the retro style/look of the Classic so it was an easy choice for me.
It is a big bike for moving around the carpark but it come into it's own once you hit the highway. Effortless is the word. What I like about it is the Classic look and the ability to take the screen off if you choose. But after riding with a screen you will be converted, some people don't like the look, but it's up to the individual.
I did ride pillion on the Delux and the standard seat is no good for any long runs, ( it jars over the bumps) you would have to get a touring seat, and that would spoil the look, in my opinion.
