So I've had an oil skin (drizza bone ) for about 6 yrs and the waterproof characteristics were less than impressive. If you just stood in the rain you were wet within 15 minutes.

I went onto the Drizza bone web site and found that they sell a re proofing kit. The wash is specific to wool and wax cotton. The tin of oil/wax is to apply after its been washed/dried. The whole kit cost $39.90 delivered to the door. See image below.

So I followed the instructions and washed, dried and applied the wax/oil as instructed.

It is a pain as the oil/wax is very thick and needs to be melted in a double boiler. I used one of those cheap gas camping cookers so I could do it all outside. I applied with a cheap paint brush and left the jacket out in the sun to soak in.

As sun in Vic is a little hard to find this time of year that was a failure and the jacket was still sticky with the product as it had not soaked into the material.

Then I read about using the hair dryer to help heat the oil/wax once applied to the material. Since hair dryers are for pussy's I used the heat gun.

Well that worked a treat. the Wax soaked into the material really quickly and now the jacket is waterproof again (found that out last weekend coming back from a ride.

So now she resides back on the bars and is ready for the unexpected.

    Regards

Thanks for the review Russ, I just bought a Drizabone 2 days ago, did you go the 3/4? or the short? Like your idea of attaching it to your bike.

    Good write up there.

I am looking at a new driza-bone and wondered about how to keep it well maintained.

    Cheers.
