88 are in the dynas where they are complete unit rubber mounted, the 88b are in the softtails, because of the suspension being underneath the motor has a seperate oil tank is soild mounted and counter balanced.they ran from 99 to 2006.

Thanks kensim,I wasn't sure whether there was a difference in the two engines (improvements etc) or if it was just model differences, that clears that up

I also believe the 88B's have a max rpm limit of 6200 rpm or you reach the durability limit of the balancer.
    Which, i'm guessing, is bad.

So, obviously, the new softails would be called 96B's then ???

Having owned both 88B and a 96" rubber mount (non balanced), the difference is amazing. My 88B softail used to just shake the very end of the rear mudgaurd at idle but that was it.
My new 96" 88 Road King shakes like fuck at idle, you can also really feel the vibes at low revs through the bike when riding whereas the softy was smooth as silk undies. When I watch my RK idling when cold, I actually wonder how long before my bars will fatigue and start to droop.
    Cool as shit though !
