Ready to pull the trigger on my first HD

looking to buy new in the next few months and just can't pick which one.
    FatBob or Wide Glide

Fat Bob don't like bars, wheels and rear guard

Wide glide don't like bars,  spoked wheels or front wheel size

Bob has less rake which I like but it is heavier by 20kgs

looks like I would be changing wheels and bars no matter what.

A smaller front wheel on the glide may make it a bit of a hand full with the amount of rake it has.

Maybe they won't look so bad in the flesh

    comments and guidance much appreciated

     hi,

i just got a wide glide and couldnt be happier brother,  awesome 34 degree rake, skinny front tire, 49mm chrome FX forks sums up the bike

dont find any issue with heat

just wish someone in Aus made a 24-30" sissy bar that bolted straight up

    thanks

Have ya seen the new Softail Slim (cross between a Blackline and a Fatboy)

Check one out in the flesh before you decide on anything. They are a very nice bike

    Cheers Jilli

Sorry ya can't see the bike that well but if I was ready for a change this would be my choice

robots. the skinny front and rake is what I don't like. similar to my japa and it don't like the weight on it to much in a emergency stop. Which seems to be more often these days around here.
I like the fatbob if I can get a front wheel that looks more open and lower profile tyre but maintain the same over all diameter. I also dont like the duck tail guard but guess that can be changed.
    Blood confusing.
I want to make the right choice as this could well be my last bike and first HD

H-D do a "Stinger Custom Wheel" which fits the Fat bob

    http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448774139&default=none

And theres plenty of info on the web about the wide glide rear fender conversion for  the Fatbob, if thats your taste.

In saying that , i love my fat bob, but the 1st things i did was ditch the twin headlights, and bolt on a set of  8" T-Bars. Great thing about Harleys there lots of options to get the bike how you want it

thanks man I looked at the catalogue but didn't spot that. It's just what I am looking for. lower profile tyre and more wheel.

Swap the guard and hey presto we have a Fat Glide
the twin light is some thing I like

Daggs and at 3k less that's a fine idea, just about covers wheels, seat and pipes.

I am now getting the HD idea. you can take any bike and make it close to your ideal choice.

time to start spending time at the local dealers I reckon

thanks to every one for the ideas and help

yea but if any thing i would go the other way. just think it turns better.

I think it is going to be the FAT, less tyre to wheel ratio and rear guard job will do it. I could just try a lower profile tyre first to see how the look changes.

Twin disc up front with ABS gets me. I'm 85 kg the minister for home affairs is 45kg so pulling up bike plus 130kgs isn't always easy.

Ride to work in traffic every day on a metric with single disc, 21" skinny front and some days it is just luck that gets it done

The problem with this brand is the never ending choice, if that can be a problem.

Wish now I started 37 years ago instead of now, at least I should have had some idea by now.

Ozy, why do you want a Harley over another Jap ?

    easy to answer that one.
Always wanted one from a young age but never been in a position to have one.
Had a few not so good bikes from age 17.
Around 32 I got a ZXR7 and then at 42 I got a ZZR1100. HD's didn't seem to suite the style of riding I had come to like at that time.
At 50 I realised the 1100 was no longer good for my license or my likely longevity so I got a metric.
Never really liked it and almost will never take it on the highway, but I still have all my points and I am still alive.

The old man god rest his sole had bikes before I came along, he could never see why I had the Kawa's. He under stood the desire to ride but not my choice.

But now I am in a position to have one, with time running out and a strong desire to share this country with my new wife it seems like the only choice to make.
The idea of riding along the qld coast on a HD with my wife for a month is a vision I want to fulfil.

New Wife New Bike New Life

Mate, take a Fatbob for a good ride and I reckon you'll buy one over the Wideglide.  Both great bikes, but FXDF is more confidence inspiring and likes corners. Once the twin disc, braided lines front end is bedded in, I reckon the brakes are pretty good too. I actually prefer the rear guard on the Fatbob, but previously had a FXDL and also wanted to change to the old Wideglide guard. Now the FXDWG has gone to a different guard ... go figure?

Get down to your dealer and take both for a 50km ride back to back.  Enjoy making the choice!

hers a pic from mum and dad's era. I may well have been created as a result of this bike. They didn't get a car untill I arrived in this world. Bikes seem to have some unknown power since way back when. hahah

Be Nice remember it's my mum
