Fuel Filters Softail

Changed my fuel Filter over today for my Heritage... Anyone contemplating this should be warned it is a pain in the arse.

    1. The kit contains Filter, Hose, 2 clamps and O'Ring.

    2.  You need a New Tank seal  ( Rubber seal not damaged during removal either), and an extra clamp. Definately need 3 clamps as you have to remove 3.

What the manual says is lacking in the part about rotating the lower arm of the assembly to get it out of the tank.  Google is helpful but in the end it was pure luck on my part as there are a couple of videos explaining it.

I was actually surprised how bad the lower pre filter was.  I don't know if that can be changed over or not.  but I blew through the filter to see what it was like and she was pretty bad....

Heritage Softail / Dyna all the same.

In thru' the "window" in the top of the tank.

Ignition / speedo "off" or hanging to the side on a towel or similar...

It's a wiggle and a squiggle so DO watch the youtube video(s) first .

On my 2006 Dyna (at the time) I didn't change the rubber sealer gasket, but the destructions say to do so !

Prolly wise to do so, A lot of what seems to be electrical problems, are in fact caused of dirty fuel filters, and mask or imitate electrical glitches quite well the buggers.

If you don't change your filters then with the EFI system it can put extra strain on the fuel pump. Possibly ending in having to replace the pump. $245.00.
