HI all. Got a drama with my 85 fxst. Went to go on the Black dog ride on sunday and bike started to splutter and backfire. Checked the spark and found none. Mate told me it was the ignition module as the original harley ones were pretty crap and to replace it with an aftermarket one like the crane cam hi-4. Does that sound right?

    Cheers

First thing I'd do would be to check your wiring, assuming no one has ever re-wired it, it's 27 years old. By 85 Harley had pretty much sorted out it's ignitions. I'm not saying it's not the problem, but start looking at the simple stuff first.
    Cheers,
    Cris.

hey all. Thats for the help. Checked the wiring and found a broken wire on the circuit breaker for the ignition! Fixed it and fired up no probs. Plan to go over the whole bike and rewire all those bad wires. She is 27 years old after all!
