Hi my bike is due for  its  8000 km service, and I was thinking about doing it myself rather than paying $380, my question is i've installed aftermarket magnum cables and I read somewhere that they don't need lubricating is this correct. And also do I need to check and adjust the clutch even though it is working fine.

The only adjustment on the clutch might be taking the excess slack out of the cable at the lever. As far as lubricating the cables. Magnum cables have a Teflon interior coating I think. Most often they do not need lubricating as much as normal cables. However it won't hurt to put a couple of drops in the cables.Don't go over board though as it can cause problems down the track.

Mate I always use Graphite powder mixed with metho. Say 1 teaspoon of graphite to 100ml of metho (maybe up to 200ml). you can get it from a locksmith.

put it into a squirty bottle or squeezy bottle and then squeeze away. Wipe up spills with a rag soaked in more metho. just leave the leftovers in the bottle and add more metho next time you need it.

If the cable is off the bike ( I.E. new install or repair required) then I put a small lenght of clear tube over the end of the cable. either tape or hose clamp and fill tube with metho graphite mix. work the other end of the cable in and out to allow the graphite to flow down the cable. the metho evaporates and leaves the graphite.

You will not believe how much of an improvement you can get.

I have the Magnum Cables. My Idle cable kept on sticking after it was held on for a while. It was very random & very dangerous especially at speed. These cables are 3 years old & I never lubed them. My advice to you is lubricate them regularly even if they say they don't need it. I am pretty sure the wire inside my idle cable wore a slight groove in the teflon & was trapped on acceleration, so when I took my hand off the throttle it very slowly went back to idle, hence the danger. I replaced it with the original & all is good. I will be however buying a new magnum idle cable & lubricating both cables religiously.
    Hope this helps

Hi all...From many years of rideing dirtbikes,Lubricating cables only helped clogging them up.We used to clean them up with a solvent like thinners and leave them dry.You used to be able to buy a little gadget that would fit onto the cable to squirt stuff down.

Hi all...The dry graphite idea is a good one.

If cables need lubricating to function properly,It mean there fucked and time to buy new ones.
