Clear protective coatings (Fuel tanks)

I was wondering if anybody has used - had applied that clear coating (Like a car bar, but clear plastic moulded polymer) to their fuel tank or exposed painted surfaces? It's applied like a think clear window tint, and has to be heated with a heat gun and applied whilst wet to mould to the appling surface..

I have seen this done to many a expensive car, but it is a little noticeable, but I feel it wouldn't be that much of a concern on a bike.

A mate advised you can get the leather protection covers for the fuel tank, he's had some rock damage to his 2008 Fatboy, but I'm not to keen on the leathers on my bike.

So was looking to see if anybody had gone down this path or heard from anybody that has.

I'm waiting to take delivery of a 2012 Deluxe, Two Tone, Birch White/Midnight Pearl.

    Cheers,

i bought a kit for my fireblade you dont heat it you use soapy water and use a squeegy to get the air bubbles out. its suppose to let the uv rays through so the tank will faid evenly. but havent worried about the harley i just bought a tank bra much cheaper

I have used a company called invisable car bra on my HSV, he comes out on site and installs the product which is a clear plastic film that is put on wet and if you need too remove it you heat it with a hair dryer. Its been on for 4 years now and still looks good but i dont do a lot of KMs, when he came out to my place he also installed the product on the mates Heritages tank, front gaurd and forks and it wasnt too noticable and it has done the job it was intended to do. Cant remember the price but i dont think it was all that cheap.

Not sure if this is what your after, its a product called "Road Warrior", you can buy here in Aus. I used it on my 4wd drive on fishing trip to the Cape last year. You simply apply it with a small foam roller, 2 thick coats, goes on white, dries clear. Will peel off easliy by hand or when comes in contact with water.

Did to top job of protecting the paint on my ute for 4 weeks, while bashing through the bush. If i did a long roadtrip on my bike, i would'n t hesitate to use it.
