    G'day all,

Looking to get back into an evo after three twinkies and was chasing a bit of info on what to look for - current market values etc.

Bike is a 1997 black Heritage Softail with 32,000 kms on the clock - plenty of rego left - ww  tyres in good nick.

It has recently had a full going over/service and the current owner had a new Mikuni carby and a hypercharger chucked on after things clagged up a bit from lack of use/stale fuel. Says it's running better than it ever has (we'll see). Running a set SE pipes also.

It has a new battery - again lack of use killed the old one. Has all original parts and looks very original apart from carb/intake and pipes.

Photos look good (buggered if I can remember how to load photos here!) and I'll be inspecting on Friday.

Any views on what a good price would be on the bike??

Anything in particular I should be looking at that you guys can think of when I inspect?

Obviously this bike is a 1HD VIN. Don't know if it's a silly question or not but any way to ID if this is an import seeing as it won't have the 5HD to make it easy for me?

    Cheers.

Cheers Dodge , Kiwidave has the price about right, I would also bitch about resale value some time in the future due to the carby, ask him if the original injection system goes with the bike, as this can be a good bargaining point as well. Seeing as it's not stock standard I would offer him 13G (cash) as a starting point, you have nothing to lose & everything to gain as it's a buyers market. As for ID if it's an import it has to have a purple compliance sticker on the right hand side down tube on your frame, just under you Vid ID.

Thanks for the replies fellas - she's home here in the garage.

There's nothing but a silver vin plate riveted to the right downtube so I guess Aussie bike.

Fired up first go from cold with just a little choke and no throttle.

Got the original carb and intake with it.

Just like my old evo of 18 years ago (good memories).

Compared to my last three twinkies it's old, slow (pulls hard though) it rattles and vibrates - I love it!

Best 200km ride home I've had in a lotta years.

    Thanks again.

I dunno WTF a twinkie is but the evo with little use is a thing that i would go for.
Having just a CV carb to deal with it makes for a good reliable cruiser.
15 sounds right in the current retail climate.

    BUT
The more you use an Evo the more it likes it , I just hope idle years haven't done a job on the bearings etc.
To dry store any vehicle they either need intermittent use or protection lubricants.
The reality is that you may well buy this museum find only to find out that the internals are pitted from condensation and it could throw a bearing as soon as you warm it up or doing a solid run on it..
Pull it down for a look see would be something that I would consider and factor into the deal..

Twinkie equals twin cam. I'll cut the slang.

Bike starts and runs well and seems damn tight in all the areas it should be. Ran pretty hard for the 200 km run home

Nil smoke at all and nothing to indicate dramas.

One thing I've learnt over 20 years of owning Harleys is that riding em does em good and if ther are no obvious signs of trouble forget what might be or could be wrong and enjoy riding the shit out of it.

    18 year old???
