    Hi everybody

I dont own a harley but have been involved with them in my younger years.

I have joined the forum to help someone dear to me as I hope to find out some information.

I was hoping I could ask a question and find some answers for this person.

    Ok, my question is.....

Lets say I walked into a shop and bought my first ever HD.

I was wanting to know if it's true that when you buy your first ever HD that everybody who ever buys one is automatically joined into a bikie group with the name of Wild Hogs or something similar but with the name Hogs in it?

This biker group is apparently meant to be the first ever group everyone joins when they first buy a HD before they then eventually go and choose their own group if they want to.

Look, I'll be honest and say that I am sure the above statements are absolute rot but I have to ask someone so I know for a fact and of course th ebest place to ask of course, is HD owners because at some stage, you all had to buy your first HD.

When I say it's rot, I am aware of the movie and I think there is a USA based Wild Hogs biker group.

Can I also say that in my younger snapper years:) I knew a few people who bought brand new HD and not one of these were ever autmatically put into this so called beginner HD biker group called the Wild hogs or Hogs something-or-other.

I know it's a far out there type of question and I really appreciate any help with finding the facts V's fiction.

    Thanks.

Welcome Bubbygirl, I don't know any club by the name of wild hogs, but there are Harley dealerships that sponsors local Harley enthusiasts called H.O.G. which stands for Harley Owners Group. They are not, by any stretch of the imagination, a Bikie Gang. They are as already stated, 'enthusiasts' & social club, no different to the British bike owners, Honda owners, BMW owners etc! And 'No' it's not compulsory to Join H.O.G. when you purchase your first Harley.
Having said that, there are a lot of financial advantage belonging to H.O.G. IE. Members discount on parts, service, etc. Hope this has been of help!

PS, I do think there was a comedy & a fictious club called 'wild Hogs' but don't quote me on that, Maybe some older bikers out there would have a better idea! Cheers Bubbygirl, if you need any more information, don't hesitate, as this forum is the best there is & it's full of gentlemen & Ladies only to willing to help out!

Hi Bubbygirl, Crazy Erny is correct about the H.O.Group, social only, not compulsory, has membership advantages ie: parts dicounts etc, and if first owner maybe valuable for mixing with like minded people, don't stress as in my many years of riding I've never heard of anybody ever being AUTOMATICALLY joined into ANY club as that's not how it's done I can assure you of that, so relax. Yes there was a movie called the Wild Hogs released a few years back, a bloody funny comedy starring John Travolta....all tongue in cheek stuff, enjoy the Forum and Welcome.

Thanks so much everyone for clearing all this up for me.
Like I said I know it's a bit of an odd question but I have someone in my life trying to tell my daughter that everyone becomes a HOG member when they buy a HD and it's a beginner biker gang and from there, everyone moves on to bigger and badder biker gangs as they progress with HD ownership.

So I thought the best place to get the truth was to ask all you lovely HD owners and that bought me here.

I really really appreciate all your help, if anybody else has any more thoughts, please keep em coming:)

Please, don't get me wrong, I do NOT think the majority of HD riders (or any bike riders) are a bad bunch of people but as with anything in life.....there is always those who wish to put out the bad ass image and sadly the person in question who is trying to tell my daughter the rot he is one of those people who likes to be in the bad bunch and sadly give my daughter the impression that all bikies are bad. I have spent a long time telling her this is not the case and HE chooses to behave like he does and he is the exception, not the rule.

This is why he is trying to fill her head with rot and she is very upset and I promised her I would find the truth for her and I feel I have found it, so again thank you.

Why not take your daughter to a Ulysses Group, They meet normally once a week for a social chat.

Have a chat with the members, most are down to earth.

Then she would see for herself not all Harley riders are Thugs.

Sounds a bit like she wants a new bike and some one else is talking her out of it. Take her with you to a HD shop and have a look around, ask heaps of questions and make up your own mind. Read the link about 6 posts up and most of your fears will be gone. She shouldn't miss the enjoyment of owning a bike just on some one elses prejudices. Maybe he doesn't want her to have her own enjoyment in life.
There are many more owners and riders of bikes of all makes than there are 1% members. You do not enter those clubs just because you bought a new bike.

Ok, here's the exact situation.....and just to quickly update, I have spoken with my daughter and told her all of what you have all said, what the H.O.G. is and she fully gets it now.

Ok, my daughter is not my bio daughter but I have full custody of her through the court, her father is my brother. She is nearly 16.
He has always been a wannabe when it comes to bikie stuff but yesterday he was big noting his new bikie group to her and she questioned him on the group that she recalls him being in when they last had contact 5 yrs ago.
She swears it was called the Wild Hogs and told him this and this is when he went on to say he used to be in a biker group called the HOGS something or other and this group was a group that everybody goes into when they buy a HD and he got sick of them and left that group for a better group.
In his conversations to me that are not very nice, he loves to threaten me with what he calls his "big bikie mates" and tells me that he has been traveling with them and he's learned a lot but the best thing he has learned is how to kill me and get away with it and to watch myself cause he knows lots of people in lots of chapters and I should be looking over my shoulder at all times.
he is one of these types who just loves to up talk himself but is full of BS and likes to give her the impression he is a tough bad ass bikie.

So she was really questioning me last night about this HOG group and wanting to know the truth etc, so I promised her I would find out some info for her and she could make up her own mind as to if her father was talking BS or not.

Oh, here's the funniest thing he has ever said in regards to his HD and I remember it as if it was yesterday...he went out and bought a quaka not a HD, rode home and we all went to check out his new bike and we questioned him that it was a quaka not a HD and he said it was a quaka HD and that it was the best bike you could buy (at the time) and now that he bought it and got it home safely, it was worth $15K more than what he just paid for it cause it was so valuable. Everyone knew that the words HD and Kawasaki do not mix together but he believed what he was saying.
We all laughed, told him he was smoking something too strong and walked away and we all laugh about to this day.
It's obvious he has warped thinking:)

So that's the basis of why I was asking and again, I thank you very much for helping my daughter understand things a bit better and be able to make her own mind up from the rot he fed her yesterday.

sounds like your doing a good thing for your niece. unfortunatley your brother should be doing it not you. But that happens in life I guess. In time when it is all to late he will come to see that he didn't impress her or any one else with the self promption style and probabbly lost his daughter all together.
Any way she is 16 so still time to plan for her first bike and she could do far worse than a HD. Thumbs up to you for watching out for her.

Again, please understand, I am not intending anything but to answer my daughters questions (I call her daughter because that is what she legally is now).

Crazy Erny, I did read your post out to her and suggest to her if she wishes to do what you have suggested, I am more than happy to organise it but she declined and said she feels comfortable that she knows the truth now and is ok.

What possible rat could you smell? I am not going to come into a place for the first time and give you all my details, if you read my first post I didn't lie to you or anybody, I just didn't give all the personal info and one reason was because I didn't want to come across as downing my brother.
But many started playing the guessing game as to what's going on and because everyone had been so nice and helpful in explaining this HOG issue, I felt I should open up a bit further and give more details as to what's going on and exactly why I am asking the question I am.

Stop and think for just one second what it's like living like we do with a person in our life like him? It's not fun on any level and me having custody of her now through the court says just what kind of father he was, which was not a good one and now she's old enough to ask more questions and she seeks the truth, it is as simple as that.

I'm very sorry if you feel conned (I can't see how I am trying to con you or anybody but everybody entitled to their own thoughts I suppose) and I definitely am not anything that would make anybody look like fools and again, sorry if you feel this way.

Thanks again to everybody who helped me help my daughter understand this issue better, I wont read the last post to her cause I know how she will react but please know, I did read all the others to her and she know understands the HOG issue much better and has made her own judgement call about the stuff her father told her.

    Cheers

i think the rat they smell is erny thinks your having a lend of everyone meaning this is a joke or something. i guess everyone is not up to speed with the harley culture like yourself hence why he thinks he is smelling a rat. of course that is just what im guessing/opinion.

Thanks Will and I do understand to some degree.
But I can tell you now, there is no reason why anybody (that isn't sick in the head anyway) would come and post the personal things I have for no good reason.
I know the truth and truth is, I am not pulling anybody's leg or having anybody on, this is our life with my nutter brother, it's very clear to us that he has big mental issues but what's sad about it is, he uses his so called bikie mates as his backbone and tries to fill her head with rot and I don't want her to believe BS, I want her to know the truth, hence why I came here in the first place.

It's funny because the night before he called and spoke with her, she was watching the news and saw all the bikie gang stuff happening in Sydney and she turned and asked me "are all bikies bad?"
I told her no and like with any group of people, you always get the good and the bad and that's just life.

I'm sorry if anybody feels/thinks I'm pulling your leg, in a way I wish I was and this wasn't our life with my nutter brother but it is and I didn't come in here to make myself feel worse by having to end up defending our lives and being told I'm pulling someones leg.
I could give you all a really good belly laugh and tell you some of the BS he tries to tell her or me but I'm not going to, because we are all normal thinking people and the things he says are so far fetched they are not logical and it would only give some members more thoughts that I must be pulling legs.

I tell her al the time "you can hold your head high that you know the truth, you know the facts and you know you/we did the right thing" and I guess this same saying applies in this case, cause I know I'm not being dishonest in any way, I don't live my life like that.

Thanks again for all the positive help offered, I think it's best I leave it at that hey, I don't wish to cause upset, that's not what I joined for.

Gidday Bubbygirl & welcome to the forum.

HOG Members are 'enthusiasts, not 'Bikies' in the Media sense of the word. They're big across the Globe and not just Australia.

Best wishes with that other stuff.
