     Hi all,

I bought a 48 last weekend (second hand) I got three sets of pipes with it stock/Ss slash backs and V&H big radious which I have on at the moment. I have just been going through the boxes of stuff I got with the bike and found the super tuner. Should I have this on if I'm running the V&H pipes?? Sorry if this has been covered already!  Any advice would be greatly apreciated. P.S loving the forum! And the Harley!!

I'm guessing your referring to the VCI (Vehicle Communication Interface), that's only used when tuning the bike, it's not on all the time.

P.s.If you change the Exhausts, you'll have to change the engine parameters to match the Exhausts.

    Normally Dynos the Go.

Gidday Duke. Allde is probably right, you have the module to be plugged in when you need to retune. There is a lot of debate about whether you need to retune after changing exhaust only. The common response seems to be if you fit slip ons only, then you don't need a retune of the efi. If you fit slip ons and air cleaner mods, then a retune is needed. For a full system such as the big radius, the collective wisdom seems to be you may get away without a retune, but most likely will need one. Sounds like your bike has already had the retune of the efi if it has the super tuner module with the stuff it came with. Have fun riding it!

Howdy, sorry to be prick and disagree with above, but I fitted slip ons and she ran like a dog. The retune fixed it and she now runs sweet as a button. Lot of money, yes, but I think it is worth it.

I had a different experience, when I bought the Iron in 2010 I had SE Slip On's fitted before I picked her up, no SERT and it went fine. I was always off the impression that the only time you needed to change fuel maps was when you altered air intake and flow. Slip-ons should be fine because they're using the same header, however when you change pipes to a larger diameter then you're likely to get a popping sound on deceleration; which can be tuned out with the right set up.

Duke, does you're bike have a different Air Cleaner @ the moment, if it does; then you'll probably find that it has already been tuned using the SERT and I highly recommend guarding it with your life! They're extremely expensive to replace and you'll need it to be used each time your bike is tuned. Also, highly unlikely to have bought the part and never used it!

    Hope that helps?
