I have imported an arlen ness big sucker to fit to my Heritage 2008.  But on following instructions (destructions) removing the existing air filter backing plate - there are electrical connections to the filter cover aparently not on the American /harleys ??????

Can anyone help - do I simply disconnect this connection  (to a flap on the air intake hole) or is it more important than that.

    Thanks for any help

Mate do a search for "Active air"

    http://www.hdforums.com.au/Default.aspx?tabid=71&forumid=24&postid=297274&view=topic

read the many responses that it shows.

Short answer is yes you will need to have the "Active air" turned off or trick the puter to believe that it's still there.

The active exhaust and active air eliminator plugs you can get off ebay are a rip off. I got one from my local harley tuna guy. I think any H-D tuner mech shop worth their salt would have one for the active air plug.  He plugged it on and reset the code from the speedo button in about 30 seconds and didn't even charge! how good is that.

I had the same question when fitting a Big Sucker kit to my 2011 Heritage, if the "Active Air" and "Active Exhaust" (which your model may not have) are disabled then no dramas, just disconnect the plug from the back of the original backing plate and tape or tie it up out of the way. Not too sure whether your model has the "Active Exhaust" little flapper in the rear exhaust header pipe, but sounds like it does have the "Active Air" flapper on the intake side of things.
    Cheers,

Yeah  thanks Chris   My exhaust flapper was disconnected by the dealer when new slip ons were installed and I have just taped over the inflow flapper control and put it out of the way . Seems to run well but the rain has beat me   All good
