Anyone removed the rear indicator standoffs?

Has anyone removed the rear indicator standoffs from their 48?

I am either going to remove them altogether or put on smaller standoffs from a softail (part# 69933-08) so they don't stick out so much.

Any tips if you have done this?

Hi machine, I'm keen to do this to my forty eight. Any info yet? Do you know if it's possible to tint front and rear lens's?

Hi all. Yeah a old thread but the search thing worked this time.

I am replacing a faulty tail light and thought it was a good chance to change to shorter standoffs while I'm at it. When removing the indicators I found that the plug does not fit through the hole in the strut cover. I could cut and rejoin the wires, but that doesn't seem right. Am I missing something?

Later when I've got some more coins in my pocket I would like to change to the run/stop/turn lights and chopped rear fender etc like the 48 as the Custom has the stupid number plate sticking up like a billboard. Surely you don't have to cut the wires every time you remove the indicators? Plan B would be to drill out the holes bigger ready for next time. Would this fuck up the chrome? Anyone had the same problem?

I have cut about 25mm off my standoffs on my forty eight.

Left is stock & right has been cut.

They are not that hard to take off, there are are few 13mm nuts behind the strut bars you will have to remove, you'll also have to pull the wiring thru. If you dont want to cut them, you can use the softail ones which will still allow you to use the sissy bar mounts. But if you dont want to use a sissy bar get the standoffs from a Fatbob as they are half the length again, as far as i know they only come in chrome so will have to be painted/powder coated.

GT1200 - The plugs are easy to depin if its an issue.

5ltr - check my memory but dont the super lows have a stop light on the guard? if so they indicators are different - 48,iron and a few others have the led indicators which also incorporate the run light and stop (sealed not about to open them)

Thanks for your replies. but I did not really get an answer.

I will cut the wires and solder them back together and I will have to do some more research to see which way I go with the fender and lights. Cheers GT

Thought about that Colstah. Are they required by law? (defect) You know, being a law abiding citizen and all.

Cheers Scouser, thought it would depend on the year. If it gets to the point of breaking out the tape measure I could just put the stock ones back on which is why I don't want to cut them down (plus possibly damaging the chrome)

forget the wire issue, I will cut and solder them.    OK...one last try:

    1) Can anyone tell me if the LED run/stop/turn lights come in chrome or only black?

    2) Can I fit a stock Harley run/stop light and plate holder to a 48 / Iron rear fender  I have looked at a few aftermarket lights.

    3) Has anyone changed to the softail or similar standoffs? / any issue with fitting the sissy bar

As T1 points out the Fatbob ones would look good but are too small as they are mounted behind the docking points. where as the others are mounted between the docking points.

If it's all to hard, I will leave it stock. Thanks again. GT

Thanks T1. Clear and to the point, just what I was after. I agree, was probobly overthinking it but just wanted to confirm it would all come together ok.

Now just need to think about changing to a 48 fender or do I break out the angle grinder. Thanks again GT.
