I was using my TTS tuner on Saturday morning on a 2008 Softail.
Approx half way thru' the re-flash ( using a Kuryakyn Calibration ) the laptop flagged up a "low voltage 10.8 V" warning.
Thought I could rescue the situation with the SAVE / RESTORE function , and tried for hours , no luck !!
Corrupted ECM would only let the reflash to RESTORE go to 80%...Fu****g frustrating on a dry weekend !!
All sorta TSSM link problems ensued as well a real PITA !!!
What caused it ? Headlight on, bike had only been run 2K's since being started. Combination of factors really.
Result ? Bike had to be trucked to the Harley dealers on Monday to have the Digital Tech re-write the VIN into the ECM and be re-flashed to bone stock 2008 calibration
COST ? $102.50 to the dealers, and $100 to the Motorcycles Movers towie
I had emailed TTS ( Steve Cole actually !) for any tips, and he did reply quickly ( thanks again Steve !).
THE TIP ? PULL THE HEADLIGHT FUSE BEFORE ANY RE-FLASHING ATTEMPTS !!
In hindsight ( always wonderful !) it would always have been a wise move anyways to do so. I've never done it before now, but now will always do so. Same would apply to SERT, SEPST or any other tuner which accesses the stock ECM with the ignition, run switch and headlight on !!
A lesson learned and proof that an "old dog" can be forced to learn new tricks haha...(not !)
The dealer also cautiously said that maybe my Tuner would not now recognise the re-written VIN in the ECM but it was all good when I tried this arvo to load up another Cal. All smooth sailing thankfully !!
On return from being Re-Flashed back to stock from the HD dealers Digi-tech session, I did indeed connect up a battery tender for 12 hours and left it connected and live while re attempting the TTS. I had also fully charged the battery BEFORE it went to the dealers as well !! That AND pulled the headlight fuse. "Belt and Braces" approach I know, but I will ALWAYS do that now !! Once bitten and all that...
Oh, and I still really rate the TTS system, there was no fault with that, only the low bike battery initially !!
