I know its been spoke about before but who would but buy a import, and who would'nt . if you did would you expect it cheaper ... Reason i bring this up , is yesterday at my local dealers , I counted 14 Harleys for sale and 9 were imports
My views are simple if i seen a real nice one i wanted , being a import would'nt stop me buying ,,,, BUT ,, the price would , i simply would'nt give them the same price has a local on principal .
The price on ALL off them was the same or higher has the local bikes , and they are buying cheaper ,, spoke to the salesmen he was saying , its only fair we do it , because for years private buyers have been importing and selling and now its fair they do it and make the profit .. We were not on the same wavelenght , when i suggested that its just devaluing the bike some poor bastard payed 25 grand for and wants a decent trade in or selling price .... Has i said , why would you giv e someone 18 grand for there 2 year old fat boy when you can pick one up in the states for 10 grand bring a container full of them and punt them out for 20 grand +..
AND it was'nt only Harleys , they had triumphs and jap bikes imported , in fact 75% of there seconhand bikes were imports .
Everyone to there own , but for me , later on this year when i'm looking for a roadking , there is no way will i buy a seconhand import and give them the same price has a local bike , i'll just keep looking till i find that local one for the same money , because after all there not passing on the savings ,,, there just making shit loads more.
And devaluing everyone elses trade in ,,, actually its probably a good way to bring the price of Harleys down cos fucked if i would buy a new Road King for 32 , spend on pipes , a few accessories , robably cost 35 grand and 2 years later be told its worth 14-15 cos thats what they can get them for in the states .
im curious whether this dealer is an authorised harley dealer . i would find it strange if it were .
Should have taken pics on Saturday at Stevos in Dandy. More 1HD than 5HDs in the second hand area.........lots more. Had to look at the compliance plates cos you couldnt tell by price!
I have heard and im not sure if this true but the local australian dealers dont want to work on personal imports from the USA. Not a problem if you can fix your bike yourself.
I had a chat with my local dealer and was told that he services all Harleys, grey or not, anyway, they come out of the same factory...but Chopa's right, there are plenty of good Harley mechanics around in their own business who WANT your custom...
I agree with Scouser, buy the bike you want and afford and enjoy it. I bought mine to ride and for the sheer pleasure of owning a harley, not for what I think I could get for it down the track. This bike will probably be the only Harley I will ever own, so I am going to make the most of every minute spent on it.
Why would you wanna think any other way....what you have is what you are...only a fool tries to change that...believe me gents, you are here for a good time....not a long time, so make it fucking well count, and fuck what others think of you or what you do...just don't fuck other lives and you'll be ok....jacks...
hey Boxa going on your logic about imports bought cheap, I bought my last car cheap at govt auctions will you offer me less because you know i paid less then retail for it?
