Changing the bars isn't a big deal, but it's fiddly and takes time. I removed my bars and drilled and ran the wires internally - so almost the same as replacing them and it took the best part of a day. Disassembling and reassembling the molex connectors was the worst part, but other than that you really just need a couple of Torx drives, a range of spanners and a torque wrench to tighten up the handlebar clamps.

If you've got the service manual it's not a hard job, and provided you've got the tools already you'll save some $$$.

At 12" mini-apes it's unlikely you'll need to change the clutch, brake, throttle and idle cables for longer ones - but you might want to switch to braided lines at the same time. I plan to do that when I go taller on my bars later this year ... that will add some time and also means removing the pipes to get at the right side of the clutch.

I reckon you'll pay close to $400 for labour to do it. Might be wrong - perhaps someone can comment if they've paid the shop to install new bars?

    Hey Fat55,

Would you mind posting a picture of those bars? I'm deciding between Burleigh or some of the US brands like Carlini but like the idea of stainless rather than chromed. I've got the 41mm front end and 21" wheel, so I do think the 1.25" would suit my bike better than the thicker handlebars but I'd be interested in seeing them from the side on, and from a rider perspective if you've got any photos you can share with us. Last Q, did you go with the 1.5" bars and have to change your risers out as well ? cheers,
