Hi guys, I've found a low KM sportster for sale in VIC, its currently unregisterd but ive been told it comes with import papers and is already complied to AUS standards. It already has one of those compliance stickers on it dated 03//11

If I buy the bike and bring it into NSW, is the compliance work from VIC, and the compliance sticker valid within NSW? or does it need to be re-complied in the NSW before getting a NSW blueslip done??

I'd be ringing the NSW version of the  RTA to clarify, before I bought the bike.

    +1
I still wouldn't trust them unless its in black and white and in triplicate and their great grandparents vouched for their honesty
the rulings between the states and territories is a joke even between the RTA and police in the same state !!!

The bike already has one of those import compliance stickers on it. Ive seen them on some peoples cars, the imported ones from Japan - Non-Australian release.

I would get them to register it in Vic then transfer the rego once you get the bike to nsw.

One way to do it if you are unsure...

Are you going to Victoria to get it? If so go with the current owner to the Vic RTA and get it rego'd in your name after he gets a RWC. Once done his obligation is met. If there is any BS about you not having a Vic licence tell them you travel to Vic sporadically for work and want to leave it there whilst you live in NSW. Works for me in Qld, NT and WA. That way the only additional cost will be a RWC at the Vic end which the seller should have before you hand over the cash. On arrival in NSW just go change the rego in NSW.
