Hi everyone, New member to the forum. [first post after my small intro]

Going to look at an Iron this weekend. If the price is right I may be all grins - it belongs to a co-worker so I think I may just ride it for a feel, if Im allowed.  If I end up with the 883 and decide I want more from it. Does anyone know of a workshop in the Sydney area who can fit and tune a 1200 upgrade? - perhaps even the NHRS 1250 kit

para-phrasing him at work today "its bog stock, only thing ive done is ride it, fill it up, and had it serviced when needed"...its a 2010 model.

he is asking $14k obo with a bit over 10,000km on it - Im a newbie to Harleys but not the price of things. The price is a way too step considering $14k could get me one with a few tasteful mods or even a brand new one.

$14k for 2010 is insane, $450 more and you're rideaway brand new

Best value by far is a low mileage one with extras since the owner never gets his money back on those and anything with say 5000 on the clock is as good as new. At very least you'll want pipes but you'll probably find one with a heavy breather and tuner. That combination is red hot, especially since there is a throttle hot spot which will give you a scare if you find it accidentally. It's natural to under rev these things because they have such a good note at low revs but they love to get a work out. If you are not hitting the rev limiter occasionally you a not trying LOL

Previous threads here about upgrades tended to recommend this be done by the dealer but although I intended doing the upgrade I like the 883 so much I stuck with it.

If I had the cash and space I'd buy another one. A top ride (as long as you have a spine that can handle the short suspension travel - that's one upgrade you'll do eventually).

    Have fun. A good decision.

scratch that bike, wont even consider using up my weekend to see it

I spoke with a mate this arvo - regularly tinkering with cars - I showed him a few sportsters on the internet and what I had planned; to get his view on things

I plan on chopping the bike to modify towards a "brat style" bike.

His suggestion was to get a bike between 2000-2003 that wont brake the bank, his view is to get the cheapest bike (like between $10 - 12,000) as my base bike, considering you want to hit it with a grinder and spend your money on cosmetic mods (fenders, tank, exhaust & wheels, might go to 21" not sure yet )

what is considered a lot of KMS on a motorcycle?

[he suggested the year range 00-03 because its prior to 'all new frame' & efi - i guess its less wires to hide]
